Houston Astros @ Toronto Blue Jays
Come Friday night, the Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays will begin a crucial three-game series at the Rogers Centre. In this peice, we take a look at each game an offer up our picks.
- 1Astros will be ready to rock for Game 1
- 2Will the Blue Jays be able to win Game 2?
- 3OVER will be the attractive pick for the series finale
- 4Houston still the favorite to top New York for AL Pennant
Astros will be ready to rock for Game 1
Following a series with the Rays during the week, Houston will then shift its focus to Toronto this weekend. And in the first game of the season, its stacked lineup will be ready to face right-handed hurler Trent Thornton.
Thornton has had his struggles this year, posting a 4-8 record and 5.34 ERA. Because of this, Houston will clearly have the advantage.
Despite Blue Jays fans having the house rocking for the former World Series Champs - we still expect the Astros to come out on top on Friday night.
Will the Blue Jays be able to win Game 2?
While Houston will likely be favored for all three of the games in this series, don’t count out the Blue Jays just yet. Their young lineup, which features promising stars like Bo Bichette and Vlad Guerrerro Jr., have what it takes to give an opposing pitcher fits.
This could lead to the local fans in Toronto seeing plenty of runs and even more excitement on Saturday evening.
Though the starting hurlers have yet to be named, this will be the Blue Jays’ chance to steal a game from Houston. We think they get it done.
OVER will be the attractive pick for the series finale
As we’ve mentioned above, both these teams have star power throughout their lineups. What’s helped the Astros more than Toronto this year, though, is their starting pitching has been on point.
It’s why Houston is one of the best teams in all of Major League Baseball. However, you can throw that out the window for Sunday’s showdown.
Both these teams will be hungry to close out the series with a win, meaning the bats could get hot early and often. We’ll go with the over hitting for this one.
Houston still the favorite to top New York for AL Pennant
All season, both the Astros and Yankees have been the two best teams in the American League. Back and forth they go, but as it stands, Houston is the favorite to win the AL Pennant.
Per Sports Interaction, the Astros hold 1.72 odds, while the Yankees have odds listed at 3.50. Who will end up coming out on top?
Houston’s unreal starting rotation is what is scaring opposing teams. Entering September, going with them to win the AL Pennant could prove to be a wise wager.
