The Most Popular PWHL Bets
Whether you’re hunting for PWHL MVP odds, Walter Cup futures, or even total goals markets, there’s a bet for that—but not every sportsbook offers the same coverage, and availability can vary. Let’s break open the most popular PWHL betting markets.
🏒 Moneyline
Likely the easiest bet to start with is the moneyline, where you simply wager on the winning team of a regular-season game. Whether you’re backing the favourites or taking a shot on the underdogs, moneyline odds are bountiful at all our books.
Example: Minnesota Frost to Win Against the Ottawa Charge (-170)
🏒 Match Goal Totals
Also known as over/under bets, totals let you wager on whether the combined number of goals scored by both teams will go over or under a line set by the sportsbook. You’re not picking a winner here; you’re betting on the overall total score.
Example: Toronto Sceptres vs. Montreal Victoire – Over 5.5 Total Goals (-110)
🏒 Game Props
PWHL game props focus on in-game events rather than the final score, offering bettors creative ways to find value beyond standard lines. These markets can include total goals by a team, whether both teams will score, the first team to score, or period-specific outcomes (plus, there’s also player props!).
Example: Ottawa Charge – Team Total Goals Over 2.5
🏒 Parlays
PWHL parlays let you combine multiple bets into one, but to win, all your selections must “hit”—and the higher the risk, the higher the reward. Bettors often mix moneylines, totals, and props to create value-driven combinations.
Example: Minnesota Frost to Win + Over 5.5 Goals + Toronto Sceptres to Score First (+700)(+120)
🏒 Puck Lines
Puck lines work like point spreads in other sports, helping level the ice between teams. The favourite must win by more than the listed goal margin, while the underdog can either win outright by ending up ahead or keep their score within the puck line.
Example: Minnesota Frost -1.5 vs. Ottawa Charge (+140)
🏒 Futures Betting
Futures bets are similar to moneylines in that you’re wagering on a winner, but focus on multi-stage tournaments—often placed months in advance—such as the Walter Cup winner, regular-season champions, or award winners. So, look for the PWHL playoff odds under the Futures tab.
Example: Montreal Victoire to Win the Walter Cup (+450)
🏒 Live Bets
With live betting, you can place wagers after the puck drops, with real-time odds that shift based on momentum, penalties, and scoring chances. Check out our PWHL picks today, and you’ll be ready to crank up the action with in-play betting opportunities tonight.
Example: Ottawa Charge to Win Live Moneyline (+145) after going down 1-0 early

How to Read PWHL Betting Odds

The most common format that sportsbooks will display odds is in American format. American odds use a + or – sign. A minus number (like -140) indicates the favourite and tells you how much you need to bet to win $100 in profit, while a plus number (like +150) indicates the underdog and shows how much profit you would win on a $100 bet.
Even though American odds are based on $100 bets, you can bet any amount you want! For a smaller bet, you just scale it down: if +150 means $100 wins $150, then $20 wins $30, and so on.
👉 Pro tip: Use our handy odds calculator to calculate your potential winnings on any bet amount and any odds format.
In practice, you’ll mostly be choosing between a favourite (negative odds, “risk more to win less”) and an underdog (positive odds, “risk less to win more”), then deciding how much you’re comfortable staking on each game.
Example PWHL Bets Under $100
Here are a few examples using simple PWHL-style moneylines to show what you’d profit on smaller bets:
| Odds | Stake | Approx. Winning Profit |
|---|---|---|
| -140 | $20 | $14 |
| -140 | $50 | $36 |
| +150 | $20 | $30 |
| +150 | $40 | $60 |
| -110 | $25 | $22.70 |
| +120 | $15 | $18 |
Tips for PWHL Betting
Before locking in your wagers, it pays to understand what makes the PWHL unique. Let’s go through some other tips for PWHL betting.
⚖️ Compare PWHL Odds & Markets
To net the best PWHL betting opportunities, we recommend signing up with multiple sportsbooks so you can compare juicy odds and take advantage of a wider range of betting markets. Following the odds—and backing the sharpest ones—is one of the best ways for rookies to confidently step onto the ice and maximize their potential winnings.
🤔 Consider Schedules, Matchups, & Stats
Edging into veteran territory, the best way to beat the competition is by doing your research. Consider how past performances impact current form, whether a team is playing back-to-back games or dealing with long travel that could leave them exhausted when they hit the ice, and which goalie is playing. Season stats and team momentum can also play a big role in morale—and ultimately, results.
💰 Set a Budget & Play Responsibly
Managing your bankroll and setting a monthly budget are great ways to prevent overspending. Sometimes it can be tough to stay ahead of bad habits—which is why our roster of PWHL sportsbooks offers responsible gambling resources to help you stay on track. Be sure to explore the tools available at your preferred sites, including deposit limits, reality checks, cooldowns, and self-exclusion options.

What is PWHL Betting?
The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) is North America’s top women’s pro hockey league—built as the NHL’s women’s counterpart and already gaining serious traction. Founded in 2024, the league features 8 teams and a 30-game regular season (Nov–May) followed by a best-of-five playoff, where the top four teams battle for the Walter Cup. The Mark Walter Group owns the league.
The PWHL also puts its own spin on the game with fan-friendly tweaks, including a 3-2-1-0 points system, tighter body-checking rules, penalties wiped after a shorthanded goal, and extended shootouts—faster, cleaner hockey designed to let skill shine.
PWHL History & Timeline
The road to women’s pro hockey has been anything but a clean breakout. Early leagues like the NWHL (Canada) and WWHL skated by as non-profits, before giving way to the CWHL, which expanded into the U.S. and China but ultimately ran out of runway and folded in 2019.
Meanwhile, the U.S.-based NWHL (later the Premier Hockey Federation) broke new ice by paying players, while top stars formed the PWHPA—a united front with one goal: stop the league-hopping and build one sustainable home for women’s hockey. That dream finally crossed the goal line in August 2023, marking a new era, when Mark Walter and Billie Jean King, in partnership with the PWHPA, dissolved the PHF and launched the Professional Women’s Hockey League.
The puck dropped in 2024 with six founding teams in Toronto, Montréal, Ottawa, Boston, New York, and Minnesota, instantly setting a new standard for the women’s game. During the PWHL’s first and second seasons, six teams competed for the championship title—three teams from Canada and three from the United States. After the 2025-2026 season, the PWHL now has eight teams with the addition of franchises in Seattle and Vancouver:
| Team | Founded |
|---|---|
| Boston Fleet | 2023 |
| Minnesota Frost | 2023 |
| Montreal Victoire | 2023 |
| New York Sirens | 2023 |
| Ottawa Charge | 2023 |
| Toronto Sceptres | 2023 |
| Seattle Torrent | 2025 |
| Vancouver Goldeneyes | 2025 |
Last year, the Montréal Victoire topped the regular-season standings behind a dominant year, but when the stakes were highest, the Minnesota Frost flipped the playoff switch—storming through the postseason and taking down the Ottawa Charge, winning the Walter Cup for the second season in a row.
