Is Stake Legal in Canada?

Stake is available in most of Canada, but it isn’t licensed by any Canadian regulator. It operates under a Curaçao gaming licence, which means Canadians outside Ontario and Alberta can access it through what’s known as the “grey market” — there’s no Canadian law preventing players from using offshore sportsbooks, but Stake isn’t overseen by a provincial regulator either.

The two exceptions are the provinces with regulated open markets:

Ontario: Stake.com is not available. Ontario requires operators to be licensed by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and registered with iGaming Ontario, and Stake holds neither. The company has said it’s working with the AGCO on registration and plans to launch a licensed Stake.ca in 2026, but no launch date has been confirmed.
