MLB Free Picks & Predictions: Houston Astros @ Washington Nationals Games 3-5
The Houston Astros are in desperation mode, as they dropped the first two home games of the World Series to the Nationals. Can they get back on track with things headed to Washington starting on Friday night?
- 01Greinke must be a Houston Game 3 hero
- 02Game 4 will be crucial for the Astros
- 03Expect Cole to bounce back in pivotal Game 5 clash
- 04Nationals have become lopsided favorites to win the World Series
Greinke must be a Houston Game 3 hero
Who in the world expected this? With Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander starting the first two games of the World Series, everyone thought Houston would have no problems against the Nationals.
However, Washington won the first two games in Houston, with Juan Soto, Ryan Zimmerman, Anthony Rendon and others coming up huge at the plate.
Now, they’ll look to take down Zack Greinke, who has a 3.48 ERA in his last two postseason starts. Can he take care of Washington?
The pressure is fully on the Astros. They need Greinke to step and deliver. We think he will, which is why our MLB picks are in Houston’s favor.
Game 4 will be crucial for the Astros
On Saturday, the teams stay at Nationals Park for Game 4. Houston is using a bullpen pitching rotation with rookie Jose Urquidy (2-1 ERA 3.96) first to the bump.
Washington maintains their regular rotation as Patrick Corbin (14-7 ERA 3.25) heads to the hill. Corbin pitched one inning during Game 1 and gave up zero runs on one hit with two strikeouts.
With the series now 2-1 Nationals, Manager Dave Martinez will do everything he can to make sure Houston doesn’t come back to tie things up in D.C.
Riding the wave of a solid Game 3 victory, Astros skipper A. J. Hinch and Crew look to make the 2019 MLB World Series a best-of-three winner take all affair.
Expect Cole to bounce back in pivotal Game 5 clash
Injury Update: Max Scherzer has been scratched due to injury. Split starter / reliever Jon Ross (4-4ERA 5.48) gets the call instead. We are happy we bought in on the 1.64 price as the Astros are now 1.40 straight up.
As we thought, the Astros rested stud Gerrit Cole in Game 4 and he will head to the bump to start Game 5. Yes, the Nationals lit him up for five runs in seven innings in Game 1. We get that.
However, that was Cole’s first loss since May 22. You really think the superstar hurler is going to lose two straight games in the World Series? It would be a complete and total shocker if that were to happen.
On the other side, after the Nationals dropped two straight at home, Washington turns to future Hall of Fame star Max Scherzer to stop the bleeding. Scherzer took the win during Game 1 over Cole.
Houston has huge momentum and Washington is scuffling. We can't see Cole losing back-to-back contests.

Nationals have become lopsided favorites to win the World Series
Entering Game 2 of the World Series, both the Astros and Nationals had 1.85 MLB odds to win the Fall Classic. Now? Those odds have turned completely, with Washington being a resounding favorite.
You can’t blame the oddsmakers for this, though. Washington has come out and won the first two games of the World Series, when no one thought they had a chance.
This has continued the playoffs upsets for them, as they took down the Dodgers and then the Cardinals to be here.
Led by Juan Soto and the brilliant pitching from Stephen Strasburg and Max Scherzer, the Nats appear to have a grasp on the trophy. Think they’ll win it all? Get your bets in.
