NHL Free Picks & Predictions: Ottawa Senators @ Montreal Canadiens
Wednesday night on the ice takes us to the Bell Centre, where the Montreal Canadiens are hosting the Ottawa Senators.
It’s an Atlantic Division tussle and a matchup between two old rivals. The Canadiens will hope for a better result in Quebec, after they took a beating by Columbus in their last.
Can Ottawa snatch back to back wins?
- 1Ottawa Senators (3.00) @ Montreal Canadiens (1.41)
- 2Parlay Pick: Ottawa Senators to win & total over 6.5 (5.80)
- 3Ottawa local boy to score again, Jean-Gabriel Pageau anytime scorer (3.85)
Ottawa Senators (3.00) @ Montreal Canadiens (1.41)
There’s no rest going into this one for either team, after the Canadiens lost to the Blue Jackets and the Senators grabbed a win against, the bottom of the NHL power rankings, the Detroit Red Wings.
Montreal are 11-6-4 outright for the season. They have been performing well so far this season, especially in offense with them putting up 3.50 goals per game so far this year.
However, the Canadiens are fairly average in defense, sitting at 19th in the league by giving up 3.05 goals per contest this season.
The Senators have been grinding out some excellent results of late, putting them on 9-11-1 outright. Duclair and Jean-Gabriel have been turning up in offense for them and are leading the scoring tables for Ottawa.
We can see the Senators going into this with momentum and purpose and edging the contest.
Take the Ottawa Senators to win.

Parlay Pick: Ottawa Senators to win & total over 6.5 (5.80)
The Canadiens have been led in offensive output by the likes of Brendan Gallagher, Tomas Tatar, Jonathan Drouin and Shea Weber this season. They’ve all tallied up over 15 points for the season.
Ottawa are looking for their third win in four games, after the victory over Detroit. It was Anthony Duclair, who bagged two goals and a number of assists on Tuesday night.
The Senators top scorer Jean-Gabriel Pageau also managed to grab himself a goal on the night. Anders Nilsson made 35 saves in the win, but will step aside tonight to allow Craig Anderson back between the pipes.
The NHL betting odds favour a home victory in this one, but we feel the fact both teams will be on tired legs and Ottawa have their recent success to spur them on, they’ll likely come away with the points.
Expect Ottawa Senators to win & over 6.5 total.

Ottawa local boy to score again, Jean-Gabriel Pageau anytime scorer (3.85)
Jean-Gabriel Pageau leads the Senators scoring tables with 12 goals and 4 assists for the season. He’s shown that he adds great value to the roster and has become a key part of D.J. Smith’s plans.
It’s been a special season offensively for Pageau, and being a local lad he always loves the fiery atmosphere brought about by rivalry in this fixture.
His stats in the matchup tell the story too – In 19 career games against the Habs, Jean-Gabriel has bagged himself 8 goals and 4 assists. He’s been all over the ice for his team and he’ll need to step up again against a strong Canadiens team.
He’ll be up against Gallagher, who has been prolific this season and leads the NHL scoring tables for Montreal. The Senators will have to work hard to stop him.
We felt Pageau deserved an NHL free pick, as he’s been performing well and we fancied him to show up in this rivals matchup.
Expect Jean-Gabriel Pageau to score anytime.
