NHL Picks And Predictions: February 14 - 16

The Bruins lead the league on points, while the Tampa Bay Lightning has won the most games in the league. The Lightning is in the best form in the league and will face the Flyers on Saturday.

A struggling St Louis Blues will travel to Nashville on Sunday to try and snap a three-game losing skid against the Preds. The Blues are still ahead of the Avalanche in the Central Division, with Colorado having now recorded more wins outright this season.

Who will take the points this weekend?

New York Rangers (2.82) @ Columbus Blue Jackets (2.24)

We start things off this weekend with a Metropolitan Division clash, as the Rangers travel to Columbus, Ohio to play the Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets come into this one looking to snap a 3-game losing streak, while a resurgent Rangers look to make it 4 wins in four.

The home team has played three very strong sides in their last three games, losing 2-1 to the Avalanche and Lightning, before losing 4-3 in OT to the Sabres. Columbus is failing to be effective in the attack, as they only manage an average of 2.6gpg.

The Rangers are far more effective in attack, putting up an average of 3.3 goals per game. Though it’s the Blue Jackets defence that will worry the visitors. Columbus boasts the second-lowest goals against, with an average of 2.33 allowed per game.

New York will look to the hot hands of Artemi Panarin, as he continues to lead the scoring tables. He’s managed 28 goals and an astonishing 46 assists for his team. Sweden’s Mika Zibanejad has also been on point, picking up a goal in the win against the Wild in their last.

Take the Rangers to win here.

Toronto Maple Leafs (1.85) @ Ottawa Senators (3.56)

The Toronto Maple Leafs are 30-20-8 for the season overall and will go into this game looking to bounce back having lost out to the Stars in their last.

Austin Matthews got yet another goal in the loss to Dallas, which takes his total to 41 goals for the season. The Leafs have been experiencing a poor run of form lately, only managing to go 5-4-1 in their last ten games.

The Sens are second-bottom in the Atlantic Division, going 19-27-11 for the season outright. They will host Toronto looking to make it two wins on the trot, having snatched the game away from the Coyotes in their last.

Ottawa has a woeful defensive record. This season they are allowing an average of 3.16 goals per game. The Maple Leafs are no better, letting through 3.11 per game on average. However, the Leafs are putting up the second-highest goals per game, with an average of 3.5gpg.

Expect the Maple Leafs to win here.

Philadelphia Flyers (3.41) @ Tampa Bay Lightning (1.90)

Tampa Bay Lightning are now third in the NHL power rankings and are creeping up slowly on the leaders the Bruins. They go 38-15-5 for the season overall while winning 9 of their last 10 games.

Tampa is rampant in the offence. They have Kucherov (27g, 43a), Stamkos (26g, 33a), Killorn (21g, 21a) and Point (20g, 35a) all scoring for fun. Meanwhile, each game they play it feels like everyone on the ice is in on the action, they’re playing so well and fluidly as a team.

Philadelphia is 32-19-7 for the 2019/20 campaign. The Flyers are in excellent form over their last 10 games going 7-2-1, and 32-19-7 for the season overall.

The Flyers were on the road to visit the Panthers in their last, they won the game 6-2 with Sean Couturier picking up another goal to take his tally to 17 goals for the season. He’s managed 34 assists this season too, which has helped Konecny get up to 19 goals for the season.

We wanted to include this game in our NHL free picks for the weekend, as these are the two in-form teams in the league right now. A great game for the neutral fans out there!

Take the Tampa Bay Lightning to win.

St Louis Blues @ Nashville Predators

The reigning Stanley Cup holders are having a torrid time in the Central Division at the moment. They are 2-5-3 in their last ten games, while they go 32-15-10 for the season overall.

The Blues will enter this one looking to snap a 3-game losing streak, having lost out to the Jets, Stars and Golden Knights in their last three. They lost 6-5 in a disappointing game, which they will feel they should have won.

The young, Bruins fan now playing for the Blues, Zach Sanford put away four goals against Vegas to take his total to 12 goals and 13 assists for the season.

Nashville is 27-22-7 for the season outright. They grabbed an excellent 5-0 shutout victory over the New York Islanders in their last game. Craig Smith picked up a hattrick in that game, taking his tally to 13 goals for the season.

The NHL betting odds aren’t yet available on this game, though they will become available as the weekend progresses. We expect the Blues to be slightly favoured, despite their terrible form in the last ten games.

Pick the Blues to win here.
