NHL Free Picks & Predictions: Carolina Hurricanes @ Colorado Avalanche

NHL Free Picks & Predictions: Carolina Hurricanes @ Colorado Avalanche

Carolina have been steady for the season so far, sitting in third in the Metropolitan Division just behind the high-flying Capitals and New York Islanders.

While the Avalanche are looking sharp, but they did lose out 5-2 in the Central Division top of the table tussle against the St Louis Blues.

Who will take the points in this one?

Carolina Hurricanes (2.88) vs Colorado Avalanche (2.10)

A 4-0 shutout win against the Calgary Flames in their last, will give the Hurricanes a boost of confidence. However, they will go to the MTS Center to face off against the Winnipeg Jets before this one, which will be a tough game.

Similarly, Colorado have to play before this game. They’ll head to the United Center to play the Blackhawks, who snapped a 4-game losing streak in their last to overcome the Wild.

The Avalanche go 21-9-3 outright for the season. They’ve some recorded big wins over the last few weeks, including wins over the Oilers, Maple Leafs and Bruins.

The Hurricanes have been doing well too, sitting on 20-11-2 overall. They go 6-3-1 in their last ten games and will look to carry their form to the Pepsi Center.

Colorado currently sit fourth in the NHL power rankings and will go ahead of St Louis with wins against the Blackhawks and in this one.

Take the Avalanche to win.

Parlay Pick: Colorado Avalanche to win & over 5.5 total (4.01)

The Avalanche are currently first in the league average goals per game, putting up 3.61 per game, while they are 23rd in goals against on 2.76 per game.

The Hurricanes are doing well in offense this season as well, putting up 3.18 per game, while in defence they sit 27th in the league on 2.61 points per game. Both teams are fairly evenly matched, but the Avalanche slightly edge out Colorado.

Andrei Svechnikov has dropped off a bit lately, he hasn’t managed to tally up a point in his last two games. Nonetheless, he’s been red-hot this season and holds the teams’ leading points total on 34 overall.

Chicago will be a nice warmup game for the Avalanche, allowing their forwards to showcase themselves against a weak defensive team.

Colorado are favoured to win this one in the bookmakers eyes, NHL betting odds give the Avalanche the edge, but not by much.

Expect the Avalanche to win, with both sides scoring for an over 5.5 total.

Player Pick: Nathan McKinnon to score anytime (2.25)

Nathan McKinnon is enjoying another season and leads his team in points with 51, almost double the amount of their second place offensive player in Cale Makar. As such, we think Nathan deserves out NHL free pick of the day.

His goal scoring prowess over the past few seasons hasn’t gone unnoticed. A number of sports pundits and commentators have recognised the fact he’s carrying his team right now, while others are injured, and could be in with a shout for MVP.

At present, McKinnon has put up some excellent numbers with 20 goals and 31 assists for the season outright.

Nathan has scored two and assisted four in the last 5 games, including goals against the Calgary Flames and the New Jersey Devils. He’ll be keen to get back on track and rack up some points in this one.

Take Colorado to win at home.
