NHL Free Picks & Predictions: Buffalo Sabres @ New York Rangers
A couple of Eastern Conference teams face off in The Big Apple, with the Buffalo Sabres back on the road.
The Rangers sit at the bottom of the league, while the Sabres are on top of the Atlantic Division grabbing an OT win against the San Jose Sharks in their last.
Will the Rangers be able to stop the Sabres at Madison Square Gardens?
- 1Buffalo Sabres (1.83) vs New York Rangers (2.0)
- 2Rangers to put up a fight, highest scoring period third (3.20)
- 3Eichel to carry on where he left off, Jack Eichel anytime scorer (2.60)
- 4One for the home fans, Rangers to win (2.65)
Buffalo Sabres (1.83) vs New York Rangers (2.0)
The bookies favour the Sabres in the NHL betting odds, and for good reason. The Buffalo Sabres have a record of 8-1-1 for the season.
It’s quite a different story for the struggling New York Rangers, who have had a tough season so far currently on 2-4-1.
They came out all guns blazing in their first two games, taking confident victories against the Jets and Senators.
However, since then things have taken a turn for the worst. They have lost their last 5 games on the bounce.
There are some rumblings in the media that their star prospect Kaapo Kakko is unhappy and this is, in-part, the reason for the recent results.
It’s business as usual for Sabres, as the Massachusetts man Jack Eichel snatched the game away from the Sharks with an OT winner. Though he deserves more credit for the performance, making 2 goals and 2 assists in the game outright.
Expect a Sabres win here.
Rangers to put up a fight, highest scoring period third (3.20)
Both teams have had a days rest and should be ready to get stuck in. We imagine that Ralph Kruegar will get his boys fired up early on and try to put this game to bed before the Rangers know what’s hit them.
However, it’s the offensive capabilities of the Rangers that are impairing them. They have only 2 players on 4 goals and the rest are trailing way behind.
They must look to improve their linkup play and attack overall, if they’re to get out of this rut.
Quite a different story for Buffalo and Jack Eichel, who became the third player in franchise history to record multiple four-point outings in the first 10 games of the season, joining Pat LaFontaine and Gilbert Perreault.
The Rangers will want to prove everyone wrong and after the streak they’re on, we back them to fight it until the end. The lamp will be lit in the third.
Take highest scoring period in the third.
Eichel to carry on where he left off, Jack Eichel anytime scorer (2.60)
Buffalo are showing the NHL what they are made of this season. You can track their progress through our NHL power rankings, so you are up-to-date with the team’s progress and everything that’s going on.
Nobody has helped them to progress more this season than Chelmsford man Jack Eichel.
The 22 year-old currently sits at 8th in the NHL player rankings, with a points per game score of 1.4, scoring 6 goals and making 8 assists.
He put two away against the Sharks and clinched the game in OT, so he won’t be short of confidence. He’ll have been made aware of the current woes for the Rangers and will look to capitalise on them.
The smart money says Jack Eichel anytime scorer.
One for the home fans, Rangers to win (2.65)
Given the current struggles for the Rangers, we felt it would be fair to provide a wager for a homeside win. Also, the NHL free picks offer a decent return on this one, so it’s worth a flutter.
Results aside, it wouldn’t be a total shot in the dark. We have seen the Rangers put in some comprehensive performances already this season. Yes things have gone bad lately, but it can’t be down to the team’s ability.
In any sport, the bottom of the table versus top of a table fixture is the kind of matchup the underdogs want. It offers the chance to get back on top, and generally, with almost no expectation of success.
Back the homeside, take Rangers to win at Madison Square Gardens.
