NHL Free Picks & Predictions: Boston Bruins @ Buffalo Sabres

We have the first in a head-to-head series as we head to the the First Niagara Center for the Friday 27th fixture, when the Buffalo Sabres host the second in the NHL power rankings the Boston Bruins.

The Bruins have been having a torrid time of late, but they turned over the league leaders in a 7-3 romping in TD Garden. While the Sabres have won four in their last eight games, including wins over the Oilers, Blues and Preds.

Will the Bruins continue in winning form?

Boston Bruins (2.18) vs Buffalo Sabres (2.82)

Boston have had a tough couple of weeks, winning two in their last ten before the win over the Capitals. They will hope that was the refresh in terms of their form on the ice, because lately they’ve been so sloppy and quite wasteful at times.

The Bruins go 22-7-9 for the season outright. They’ve conceded the vast majority of those losses in the last couple of weeks, but they are still 6th in the league in goals averaging 3.4 per game.

Constrastingly, the Sabres have a nice little run of form in the last couple of weeks, picking up wins against some of the top sides in the NHL. They will hope to be giant killers once again on Friday.

But if they want to beat Boston, they’ll have to shut out the likes of Pastrnak and Marchand, who picked up a goal and a number of assists between them against the Capitals.

The NHL betting odds favour a Bruins win on the road and we tend to agree. We feel the Sabres will struggle against, what we see to be, a rejuvenated Boston side.

Take the Bruins to win.

Parlay Pick: Boston Bruins to win & over 5.5 total (3.61)

The Bruins put up four in the first period against the Capitals, the game felt like it was won as they skated on the for the second. The Bruins just overran them and took the game to them before they had time to think.

The Sabres should look to do this to Boston. Getting into them early would be an excellent way to get into the minds of the Boston side, who have become accustomed to losing of late.

They have the likes of Jack Eichel (24 goals, 27 assists), Victor Olofsson (16 goals, 18 assists) and Sam Reinhart (12 goals, 18 assists) to provide the firepower and they are more than capable of out-scoring the offensive power on display for Boston.

Buffalo are allowing an average of 3.00 goals per game, which will be music to the ears of the Boston offense, while Boston are allowing an average of just 2.37 per game.

Expect the Bruins to win & over 5.5 total.

Player Pick: Brad Marchand to score anytime (2.60)

Marchand has always been a tough customer and a controversial figure in the NHL. But one thing you can always count on, is his drive and ability to produce results.

He’s been quiet lately, but after the win in their last we feel he’ll begin to turn up the heat as we head into the new year.

As it stands, he goes 19 goals and a staggering 35 assists, the third highest in the league, just behind the deadly-duo from Edmonton, for the 2019/20 campaign.

The 31-year old has managed to tally up 281 goals in his career and doesn’t look like stopping there. He will be hungry to get his team back on track after a rough December month.

We wanted to give Brad Merchand our NHL free pick of the week, as his bullish performance in the first against Washington was great to watch.

Take Marchand to score anytime.
