NHL Free Picks And Predictions: March 6 - March 8

The Boston Bruins ground out a win over the Florida Panthers last night, taking the game 2-1 and putting them on 98 points for the season overall. They’re in the action again this weekend in the big battle in the Atlantic Division, as they host the Lightning.

The Blackhawks continue their win streak, picking up a 4-3 win over the Oilers. They’ll face their Central Division rivals and leaders the St Louis Blues on Sunday.

Can the Blues snap the Chicago win streak?

Washington Capitals (2.68) @ Pittsburgh Penguins (2.25)

The NHL betting odds favour a win here for the Capitals as we travel to the PPG Paints Arena for our Friday night fixture. They go 40-20-7 for the season but have struggled for the past month, unable to build momentum 3-5-2 in their last ten.

Alex Ovechkin is in fine form, picking up 2 goals in the loss to the New York Rangers in their last game. They were unfortunate to miss out on the points in what was an epic affair, with Mika Zibanejad scoring 5 to clinch it.

The Penguins hit a new low recently, going on the longest losing streak the team has experienced in years. Though they’ve turned things around in the last week and will enter this one looking to make it three wins from three.

Sidney Crosby simply hasn’t turned up this season. Instead, the Penguins have relied on the likes of Bryan Bust (27g, 27a), Malkin Evgeni (21g, 48a), and Jake Guentzel (20g, 23a) to provide on offence.

Take the Penguins to win.

Tampa Bay Lightning (2.93) @ Boston Bruins (2.12)

The Bruins will go into the post-season in fine form. They’ve been the most consistent team throughout the 2019/20 campaign and don’t look to be slowing up. Boston’s success has put light between them and the second-placed team in the NHL power rankings.

The Bruins are joint-fifth in goals per game, putting up an average of 3.3 while allowing just 2.26. The Bruins are playing well in all phases of play and are certainly the NHL team to beat in this season.

Davis Pastrnak joins Ovechkin as the top goal-scorer in the league with 47 goals, although Pastrnak has been the far more effective player assisting 46 to Ovechkin’s 18.

The Lightning will enter this one 5-5 in their last ten and looking to get two consecutive wins. They’re not struggling to find the net, averaging 3.5 goals per game which is the highest in the NHL this season.

They have an array of deadly forwards, led by Nikita Kucherov (32g, 50a) who picked up a goal and an assist in their win over the Canadiens in their last. The Lightning lost the first in the head-to-head series 2-1 on Wednesday, and we can see that happening again in this one.

Pick the Bruins to win.

St Louis Blues @ Chicago Blackhawks

Sunday’s fixture is a top-of-the-table versus the bottom of the pile in the Central Division, as the Blackhawks host the reigning Stanley Cup holders in Chicago. The Blues are second in the league, going 40-17-10 so far this season.

We wanted to select this game in our picks this week due to the fact the Blackhawks have started to build some momentum, winning their last four games. While the Blues have won their last 8 games in a row.

It’s clear the Blues will be favoured in this one, but the Blackhawks stand a good chance. Patrick Kane (30g, 51a) and Dominik Kubalik (29g, 16a) have been excellent on offence and coach Colliton will be hopeful they can turn up again on Sunday.

Expect the Blues to win on the road.
