With the new week here, we can briefly reflect on the NHL. The Bruins, Capitals, Blues and the Flames lead their respective divisions.
This week brings with it some excellent games; we have The Battle of New York, as well as the Central Division leaders the St Louis Blues up against the Flyers.
Who will get the points this week?
New York Islanders (2.26) @ New York Rangers (2.71)
The New York Islanders are fourth in the NHL power rankings, going 27-12-4 in the league overall. The New York Islanders lead the head-to-head series, going 43-39 overall, with the Rangers taking the previous tie.
This is the first head-to-head of the 2019/20 campaign. The Islanders enter this one after losing out to the Bruins in their last. The game finished 3-2 in OT, with Mathew Barzal scoring and assisting continuing carrying the team on his back.
The Rangers are 21-19-4 for the season. They will also go to Madison Square Gardens, coming off the back of a loss. They were hammered 5-2 by the reigning Stanley Cup holders in the last.
Brett Howden and Filip Chytil picked up the points against the Blues. But it is Artemi Panarin who continues to lead the line for the Rangers, he’s put up 24 goals and 34 assists.
Take the Islanders to win this one.

Philadelphia Flyers (3.64) @ St Louis Blues (1.85)
The Blues have been in fine form for the past couple of weeks, winning 7-2-1 in their previous ten games. They beat the Sharks, Sabres and Rangers in fairly convincing fashion over the past few games.
David Perron has picked up 2 goals in his last three games and continues to lead the line for St Louis. He’s now on 20 goals and 22 assists for the season. He’s closely followed by Brayden Schenn (17 goals, 21 assists) and Jaden Schwartz (15 goals, 23 assists).
The Flyers did lose out to a very in-form Lightning in their last, but only by a scoreline of 1-0. Moreover, just before that they turned the Capitals over midweek, taking that one 3-2.
The Flyers aren’t favoured here and understandably so, the Flyers have been very up and down over the christmas period. The NHL betting odds look to the Blues to win here and we tend to agree.
Expect St Louis to win this one.
Pittsburgh Penguins (2.07) @ Boston Bruins (3.03)
This is our NHL free pick of the weekend. This Eastern Conference tussle will be a fiery one. The Bruins are top of the Atlantic Division and are looking to add a fourth to their consecutive win streak.
The Penguins will also go into this one looking for their fourth win on the trot. Pittsburgh sit at 28-12-5 for the campaign outright. They took wins over the Golden Knights, Avalanche and Coyotes last week and are looking in fine form.
The Penguins will host the Minnesota Wild at the PPG Paints Arena on Tuesday night, which will play a big part in the outcome of this one.
Jake Guentzel is likely out for the rest of the season, so Penguins have turned to the likes of Rust (18 goals), Malkin (13 goals) and McCann (13 goals) to put up the points.
The Bruins have won their last three games, but just before those games they lost their previous three. It’s been a bumpy ride for Boston this season. Expect this to be a great tie, but Boston will have the edge in offense and take the game.
Expect the Boston Bruins to win this game.
