NBA Weekly Free Picks & Predictions: January 20 - 23

The Bucks remain atop the East, as do the Lakers in the West, but they are closely trailed by their LA Rivals the Clippers. Doc Rivers men are 7-3 in their last ten and will travel to Dallas to face the Mavericks on Wednesday night.

We have all the best NBA free picks coming up this week. Houston will host the OKC Thunder to get things underway, as well as the Lakers road trip to TD Garden on Tuesday night.

Who will take the points this week?

Oklahoma City Thunder (3.17) @ Houston Rockets (1.38)

Houston had a week to forget. They lost out to the high-flying Grizzlies 121-10, then to the Trail Blazers and finally to the Western Conference leaders. LeBron took control of the game and dictated play for long periods, putting up 31 points and 12 assists.

The Rockets poor week sees them drop to sixth in the West, due to the fact things are so tight at the top of the table. Houston is 26-15 overall. James Harden remains the NBA’s offensive leader in points, putting up an average of 37.1 per game.

Oklahoma City has been in good form in January. They are 24-19 for the season, winning 6 of their last 10 games.

The Thunder won the first of the head-to-head series against the Rockets in the second week of January. James Harden only managed 17 points in that game, while the Italian Danilo Gallinari put up 23 points, 4 assists, 11 rebounds.

OKC Thunder won their last game 119-106 against Portland. Paul George put up 30 points, while the young Canadian Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has been very impressive so far this campaign, dropping a 22-point double-double.

The NBA betting odds heavily favour a win for the Rockets, despite the fact they’ve been comfortably beaten in their last three games. But they have two MVPs on their roster and although they’ve lost their recent games, they can beat anyone on their day.

Expect the Houston Rockets to win.

Los Angeles Lakers (1.85) @ Boston Celtics (1.99)

A shock defeat for the Lakers on Thursday night against the Magic snapped their win streak, narrowly losing out 119-118. The result put them 34-8 for the season outright. They post a record of 9-1 in their last ten.

The Lakers won their last game against the Rockets, taking the game 124-115. LeBron James had an excellent game and orchestrated the game throughout, putting up 31 points, 12 assists and 5 boards.

The Celtics started the week with a win over the Chicago Bulls but went on to win the next three games conceding games to the Pistons, Bucks and Suns. They’ve now dropped to fourth in the Eastern Conference, going 27-14 this season.

Kemba Walker, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum led the scoring for Boston. Marcus Smart had an excellent game in the loss to the Suns, breaking the Celtic’s 3-point record while hitting 11 threes in 22 attempts.

The smart money says the Lakers will win here.

Los Angeles Clippers (2.00) @ Dallas Mavericks (1.83)

The Dallas Mavericks will host the Clippers at the American Airlines Center on Wednesday night, as they look to rack up a fifth straight victory. The Mavs go 27-15 for the season overall.

Luka Doncic is starting games again after the ankle he sustained over the Christmas period. He’s been in fine form, putting up 35 points in Portland. But it was the game against the Kings that stood out to us.

He was phenomenal around the court all game. He posted 25 points, but it was the way he brought the teams together that was so impressive.

The 17 assists that galvanized the performance, with Curry, Hardaway Jnr, Powell, Kleber, Powell & Finney-Smith putting up the points around Doncic as he connected the dots.

The Clippers lost out to the Nuggets at the start of the week but won all three of the rest of the weeks’ games. They continue to have an outstanding season, as they go 29-13 for the 2019/20 campaign outright.

The NBA power ranking will favour the Clippers in this one. Given the fact they’re now second in the West and will enter this game looking to complete a fourth consecutive win.

Take the Clippers to win.

Philadelphia 76ers (2.86) @ Toronto Raptors (1.41)

The Toronto Raptors will host the 76ers on Thursday night at the Scotiabank Arena. They’ll go into their next game against the Hawks, looking to record a fourth consecutive win. We expect the Raptors to win that one, as the Hawks have only won 10 games all season.

Pascal Siakam has come back into the team and is slowly starting to get back to the form he was in before the injury.

Toronto has one of the best rosters in the league. They have great depth, with the likes of Anunoby, Powell, Davis, VanVleet, plus the old vets Ibaka and Lowry. We expect the Raptors to be too much for the 76ers at home.

Top-scorer Joel Embiid tore a ligament in his hand, which has meant he’ll be out for the foreseeable future. Tobias Harris has stepped up in his place, putting up an average of 19.4 points per game and got 34 against the Nets in their last.

Philadelphia is also on a three-game win streak, beating the Nets, Bulls and Knicks in their last three. They’ll face the Nets again before this one and it’s likely they’ll overcome them at the Barclays Center.

Expect the Raptors to win at home.
