NBA Weekly Picks & Predictions: December 16-20

As we enter the third week of December, the Bucks and the Lakers are still vying for the top spot in the NBA as they lead their respective conferences.

This week the Bucks will face some of the toughest contests of the season so far, they will play the Lakers and Rick Carlisle’s Mavericks, though Dallas will be without starman Luka Doncic.

Can the Bucks 18-game win streak be snapped?

San Antonio Spurs (5.05) @ Houston Rockets (1.15)

The Houston Rockets have had an up-and-down season. It feels like as soon as they begin to start putting things together on the court, they concede a loss.

James Harden is smashing the points per game average at the moment on 39.3. The Spurs will need to handle the minutes when Harden is benched and Westbrook is running things, these are the moments they need to take advantage of tonight.

The Spurs grabbed an overtime winner over the Phoenix Suns in their last game. They are 10-15 outright for the season. They’ll need to up their game if they want to take anything away from this one.

The NBA betting odds heavily favour the homeside in this one, we tend to agree as the Rockets ability to put up high scores has carried them this season. Less can be said for San Antonio’s high scores.

Expect the Rockets to win at home.

Dallas Maverick (6.14) @ Milwaukee Bucks (1.14)

The Heat’s excellent form continued in their last game as they overcame the Mavericks 122-118. The Mavs missed their starman Luka Doncic from early on after he picked up an ankle injury which may keep him out until the new year.

The Mavericks have been very consistent this season, going 17-8 outright and sitting third in the Western Conference. The Mavericks are an excellent team, but they don’t match up well with the Bucks.

Dallas have been reliant on creating space and count on consistency with their shooting. But given how well the Bucks have been, it’s unlikely they’re going to be able to beat them in this aspect.

There’s little more to say about Milwaukee, as they are just so good at the moment. Giannis is a man possessed on the court and his team are backing him up, the likes of Middleton, Lopez and Bledsoe.

A win here, then a win over the Lakers in the Bucks next game will put them atop of the NBA power rankings for the season.

Take Milwaukee Bucks to win.

Los Angeles Lakers @ Milwaukee Bucks

This matchup is going to be the game of the week. We’ll witness the top teams of the Eastern and Western Conference battle it out for the number one NBA spot. Because of this, we decided to make this our NBA free pick of the week.

The Lakers are on a 7-game win streak, having had their previous lengthy win streak snapped by Luka Doncic and the Mavericks a few weeks ago.

Since then the Lakers have picked up exactly where they left off before, going 24-3 for the season outright. Wins over the Jazz, Nuggets and the Heat will give the Lakers that invincible confidence back.

For Milwaukee, it’s all things go. They are picking up points across the roster now, not just from Giannis, who averages 31.0 points per game and 5th highest in the league in rebounds with 12.8 per game.

Brook Lopez has been a beast in defensive, alongside Giannis, and is fifth in the league in blocks per game, blocking an average of 2.3 per game.

Take the Bucks to beat LeBron and his Lakers.

Houston Rockets @ Los Angeles Clippers

It was a strange weekend in the NBA, as we saw the Clippers and Rockets take losses in their last games.

The Clippers, who are go 20-8 for the season outright, lost out to the Chicago Bulls 109-106 in their last game. It was a shocking defeat, given the fact the Bulls sit eleventh in the Eastern Conference.

Houston were also shocked over the weekend, losing out to the Pistons 115-107 though the Rockets were without former MVP Russell Westbrook. James Harden continued to produce the points, putting up 39 with 7 assists.

The Rockets are 17-9 for the season outright, which isn’t bad at all but you’d expect them to be doing better. Offensively they are the second highest-scoring team in the league, while defensively they are leaky, allowing 114.6 points per game.

Take the Clippers to take the points here.
