San Antonio Spurs (+220)
Hot off the heels of a soul-crushing defeat to the Knicks, the San Antonio Spurs were proven to be too good, too fast, and crumbled under the pressure of the NBA Finals. While 2026 wasn’t their year, oddsmakers currently have the Spurs slated as the opening favourites to win the NBA Championship in 2027.
With the new face of the league, Victor Wembanyama, expected to continue his rapid development into superstardom, alongside a talented young core highlighted by their backcourt of Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle, the Spurs are primed for another deep postseason run next year.
Returning the entirety of their playoff rotation from this past season, the Spurs should only get better next season as they continue to build cohesion among each other. Additionally, with some added postseason experience, the Spurs now know exactly what it’s like to go through the rigours of an NBA Finals run.
Sitting at a staggering +220, the Spurs have all the fixings of an NBA title contender, and appear poised to come back with a vengeance in 2027 as they search for redemption next season.

Oklahoma City Thunder (+240)
Coming up short in a high-stakes Game 7 against the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals, the Oklahoma City Thunder remain a bona fide title contender in 2027.
After winning the title in 2025, the Thunder continued their winning ways last season, winning 64 games in the regular season as they finished with the best record in the NBA. The Thunder looked like they were once again primed to capture an NBA Championship in 2026, but after suffering a nasty bite from the injury bug, the Thunder fell short of their return to the NBA Finals.
Now, with an offseason to regroup and lick their wounds, a healthy Thunder team is sure to be on the shortlist for anyone picking an NBA Finals team in 2027. Led by two-time MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and bolstered by NBA All-Star talents in Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams, the Thunder check all the boxes of an NBA title contender.
At +240, the oddsmakers rightfully see the Thunder in the mix for the Larry O’Brien next season, as they look to secure their second NBA Championship in three years.
Boston Celtics (+500)
Rounding out the top contenders for the 2027 NBA Championship, let’s move out East and talk about another former Champion, the Boston Celtics.
While it seemed the NBA was set to be ruled by the Green & White for several years after capturing the title in 2024, the Celtics have failed to live up to expectations over back-to-back seasons. After falling to the Knicks in 2024 in the second round, then following that up with a blown 3-1 lead against the Philadelphia 76ers in 2025, the Celtics are in desperate need of a turnaround.
With All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum making a surprise return to the C’s lineup late in the 2026 regular season, a full campaign to get his feet under him and reestablish chemistry with his team may be what can help propel the Celtics back into contention. Additionally, the Eastern Conference is by far the easier path to the the NBA Finals, and with their combination of skill and experience, it’s hard not to consider them the favourites to win the East.
If they’re able to battle their way out of the Eastern Conference in 2027, the Celtics should once again be looked at as the best bet to win the NBA Finals, as they look to further add onto their record for most Championships won by a franchise in NBA history.

2027 NBA Championship Prediction
There are still so many factors that will determine who wins the 2027 NBA Championship, including how each team drafts, offseason moves such as free-agent signings and trades, and, of course, on-court output in the regular season and avoiding injuries. With this in mind, we can however, look into some trends that can help determine what an early offseason contender looks like.
No Repeat Champions
For starters, we currently live in the “parity era” of the NBA. With the league having crowned eight different Champions over the last eight years, it’s become clear that repeating as Champions is almost impossible due to current league rules and restrictions such as the salary cap apron rules.
With this in mind, we aren’t going to consider any team that’s won the NBA title over the last eight years, so scratch off the Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors, Denver Nuggets, and the aforementioned Celtics, Thunder, and Knicks.
Top 10 in Opening Odds
While they may not always be right, oddsmakers do a good enough job of numbering down the top contenders for the NBA Championship in the offseason. Over the last eight years, no team has won the NBA title outside of the top 10 favourites.
With this in mind, and factoring in the excluded squads above, we are left with the Spurs, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Detroit Pistons, the Indiana Pacers, and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Now that we’ve got the top five contenders through these trends, let’s take a look at our way-too-early pick, the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Our 2027 NBA Championship Prediction: Minnesota Timberwolves (+3000)
Timberwolves to win 2026/27 NBA title
After coming up short in six games against the San Antonio Spurs, the Timberwolves had their streak of Western Conference Finals appearances come to an end. Having only lost to the eventual Western Conference Champions in three straight postseason, it’s clear that the T-Wolves have been among the leagues elite contenders for several years running.
Led by a genuine superstar in Anthony Edwards, the Timberwolves made a valiant effort to battle through injuries up and down their lineup in the playoffs, a major factor in their eventual defeat.
With Ant-Man only getting better, as well as the continued two-way play of forward Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert, at +3000, the T-Wolves are worth the gamble this early on. The Timberwolves still sport a deep, young roster with no shortage of talent and remain in the running for the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes.
While it may be too early to separate the contenders from the pretenders, at +3000, you can’t go wrong sprinkling some change on the Timberwolves to win it all on the latest 2027 NBA Championship odds.
