Best CFL Picks Week 6

It's hard to believe five weeks of CFL action has already come and gone, but here we are in mid July with the season really moving along. Week 5 saw some amazing games, including the Alouettes dominating the Redblacks and Winnipeg improving to 4-0 with a big win over Toronto.

Looking ahead to this week, the Blue Bombers will look to improve to 5-0, while Montreal and Ottawa will square off in what should be a highly-entertaining showdown. We take a look at those two games and more in this CFL Week 5 preview.

Stampeders ready to add to Toronto's misery

This week, the CFL games begin with a showdown between the Calgary Stampeders and Toronto Argonauts on Thursday night.

And for the Stampeders, they'll be looking to bounce back after a tough 30-23 loss last weekend to Hamilton. Fortunately for them, the 0-4 Argonauts are the worst team in the league, no doubt.

With this contest set to take place in Calgary and McMahon Stadium too, it makes the Stampeders a home-run pick to come away with the victory.

With Bo Levi Mitchell on the six-game injured list, quarterback Nick Arbuckle should have no problems tearing up Toronto in this one. Pick Calgary with confidence.

Can the Alouettes pull off a stunner and take down the Eskimos?

The Montreal Alouettes stunned us with a dominant 36-19 win over Ottawa last week. Will they be able to turn heads for the second weekend in a row? Come Friday night, they'll have a much more difficult task in trying to defeat the 3-1 Edmonton Eskimos.

Edmonton, led by superstar quarterback Trevor Harris, took it to the BC Lions in Week 4, beating them 33-6. Montreal will be playing in front of its home fans, which should help them out.

However, we expect Edmonton to prove to be too powerful and come away with a win.

BC must get back on track against Saskatchewan

What has happened to the BC Lions? The team entered the year with plenty of promise, yet they've stumbled to a 1-4 record and are in last place of the CFL West Division standings.

This week's opponent doesn't have much to be happy about either, as the Roughriders are a lowly 1-3 on the year.

For BC, if they want to restore any kind of hope for the season, they MUST come out on top this weekend. A loss to Saskatchewan would be catastrophic, even though the game will be played on the Roughriders' turf.

Will BC get the job done? We believe so.

Winnipeg will look to continue its dominance against Ottawa

Make no mistake about it, the Blue Bombers are playing like the best team in the CFL right now. Last week, they put up 48 points on Toronto. Quarterback Matt Nichols was brilliant, tossing for more than 200 yards and three touchdowns.

This week, Nichols and Co. enter their showdown with Ottawa a perfect 4-0 and can already smell a 5-0 start. The Redblacks had a disappointing Week 4, getting dismantled by Montreal.

They won't have the answers to stop Winnipeg, a group which should have no issues whatsoever in cruising to another easy win on the gridiron.
