NBA Free Picks & Predictions: February 7 - 9

The big clash in the West, between the Rockets and Lakers, ended with the Rockets taking the game 121-111. Russell Westbrook stole the show, putting up 41 points and carrying his team to victory against a strong Lakers side.

This weekend features a number of great games, including our NBA free pick of the week as the Raptors look to continue their record-breaking winning streak. The Clippers are closing in on the top spot in the West and will face a dismal Timberwolves team.

Will it be a thirteenth win for the Raptors?

Toronto Raptors (1.88) @ Indiana Pacers (1.95)

The Toronto Raptors are on the road in this one, after narrowly winning the first game in the head-to-head series 119-118. The Raptors have been remarkable over the past couple of weeks and will look to keep this run going for as long as the momentum carries them.

The Raptors, go 37-14 for the season, have one of the best defensive records in the league. They are allowing an average of just 106.1 points per game, while they’re putting up an average of 112.7ppg.

Compare that to the Pacers 109.6ppg on average, allowing just 107.1ppg. Both teams are evenly matched and that was clear in the first game in the series. They’re 31-20 for the season outright.

Though if Indiana does want to walk away with a win, they’ll need to stop Pascal Siakam (averaging 23.7ppg) and Kyle Lowry (averaging 19.7ppg) at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Even Raptors vet Serge Ibaka managed to put up 30 in the last.

The Pacers will look again to Domantas Sabonis, who’s averaging 18.3ppg. He only put up 15 points in the first game, but he controlled the flow of the game assisting 10 and getting 11 boards.

Expect the Raptors to win again.

Los Angeles Clippers @ Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves have dropped way down to 14th in the Western Conference going 15-35 overall, as they have lost their last 13 games in a row.

They’re down to 26th in the NBA power rankings right now and will need to really turn things around if they want anything from this season.

Karl-Anthony Towns leads the scoring tables for Minnesota this campaign, putting up an average of 26.7ppg with a field goal percentage of .507%. Andrew Wiggins is also having an excellent season, putting up an average of 22.4ppg.

Minnesota isn’t struggling to score, but it’s their defensive woes that are costing them. They’re allowing an average of 115.6ppg, which will be music to the ears of the Clippers roster as they’re average 115.5ppg.

The Clippers are 36-15 and will be looking to record a third consecutive win on Saturday night. These two teams played each other last weekend, with the game ending 118-106. Kawhi Leonard starred for the Clippers, putting up 31 points.

Take the Clippers to win.

Utah Jazz @ Houston Rockets

Go back to halfway through January and the Jazz was white-hot, going no a 10-game win streak. Fast forward 3 weeks and they’re looking to snap a 5-game losing streak.

Utah is still very much in playoff contention, sitting 5th in the league on 32-18. Mitchell Donovan continues to lead the line for the Jazz, putting up an average of 24.5ppg. The big Croatian Bogan Bogdanović has also been excellent.

The Rockets are hot at the moment as they will be looking to make it 5 wins in their last five at the Toyota Center. Eric Gordon, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook are all firing at the moment - it could be a tough night for the Jazz.

Houston is 33-18 for the 2019/20 campaign. They stand second in the NBA for average points per game, putting up 118.8, after 51 games this season.

The NBA betting odds are yet to be released for this game, but they will favour the Rockets to take the win and we tend to agree.

Expect a win for the Rockets.
