NBA Weekly Free Picks: January 28 - January 30

We have the coverage for all the main games this week, including a battle in the Eastern Conference between Playoff contenders the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat.

The Clippers vs Lakers game has been cancelled and will be rescheduled, as a result of the weekends’ tragedy.

This weeks’ games will feature the likes of the Dallas Mavericks, the Celtics and the Western Conference tussle as the Denver Nuggets host the Utah Jazz at the Pepsi Center later in the week.

Can the Nuggets go second in the West?

Boston Celtics (2.28) @ Miami Heat (1.66)

Our Tuesday night fixture, at the American Airlines Center, will feature an Eastern Conference top-of-the-table match. This game is certainly the best contest in the East and our top NBA free pick this week.

The Heat lost out to the Clippers on Saturday night, before playing Orlando and taking the game comfortably, 113-92. Bam Adebayo started in that game, putting up 20 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds.

Miami is 32-14 for the season, while the Celtics are 30-15 overall. The Celtics have plateaued of late, putting up just 5 wins in their last 10 games.

Miami is led in offence by Jimmy Butler, who put up 19 against the Magic, with an average of 20.3 points per game and a field goal percentage of .443%.

The NBA betting odds favour a win for the Miami Heat, which we can understand considering they won their last game, have the home side advantage and come into this one off a win.

Expect the Miami Heat to win.

Phoenix Suns (3.37) @ Dallas Mavericks (1.34)

The Dallas Mavericks host the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night after they completed a road win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday.

The Mavs won the game 107-97, with starman Luka Doncic picking up the points once again. He tallied up 29 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists throughout the game. It’s business as usual for Luka, which should worry the Suns.

The last time these Phoenix played against the 20-year old Slovenian he took them to pieces, putting up 42 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists. Dallas has been sitting around the same league position throughout the year, now 5th with 29-17 outright.

Phoenix is down in 11th in the Western Conference, with 19-27 for the season overall. They lost in their last game to the high-flying Grizzlies. The American Airlines Center won’t be an easy place to go, but the Mavs defence must find a way to control Devin Booker.

The smart money says Dallas to win at home.

Houston Rockets @ Portland Trail Blazers

Houston is joint-fifth, alongside the Dallas Mavericks, with 29-17 so far this campaign. A combination of injuries and not really finding their feet on the court puts the Rockets 4-6 in their last ten.

The Rockets have lost some key games lately, including losses against the Nuggets, Jazz, Lakers and Blazers. The first match in the head-to-head series ended 117-107, as Lilliard and McCollum took control of the game.

The Rockets are way down in twelfth in the NBA power rankings, but it’s tight at the top and a few wins could see them climb back closer to the top. While the Blazers are slowly putting up wins and edging closer to those Playoff spots.

Damien Lillard has been playing out of his skin lately. He put up 61 against the Warriors, then 47 against the Mavs, and finally 50 against the Pacers in Portlands’ last game. Now averaging 28.8 points per game, Lillard is key to success for this team right now.

Expect the Rockets to win on the road.

Utah Jazz @ Denver Nuggets

There are few NBA teams in better form than the Utah Jazz right now. They are 8-2 in their last ten games and can move to joint-second in the West with a win in this one.

Mitchell Donovan is averaging 24.9 points per game, while his teammate Bojan Bogdanovic is tallying up an average of 21.3 points per game. Those two came up big again against Houston in their last, but a career-high 50-point game from Eric Gordon won the game.

The Denver Nuggets continue to perform in the West. They are 8-2 in their last ten games, which is only equalled by the Clippers and the Bucks.

The Nuggets won the second game in the head-to-head series with the Rockets on Sunday evening, taking the game 117-110. Jerami Grant (25g, 3a, 4r) and Nikola Jokic (24g, 11a, 12r) were the top-performers for the Nuggets, ensuring the win for Denver.

Take the Denver Nuggets to win.
