Connor McDavid

Dec 16, 2025; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA; Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid (97) skates up ice with the puck against the Pittsburgh Penguins during the second period at PPG Paints Arena.

Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid is primed to make history by joining Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, and Mario Lemieux as the only players to ever win the Art Ross Trophy six times in their career.

Having won the award three years in a row from 2021-23, McDavid has consistently been among the league’s top scorers for the last decade. With insane speed on the ice, as well as sensational hockey IQ, McDavid is without a doubt one of the most talented players the game has ever seen.

With his ability to light up the scoreboard on any given night, McDavid is always a great bet to be named the Art Ross Trophy winner.

After finishing as the runner-up to Nikita Kucherov in the points race in back-to-back seasons, Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon is back on the hunt to capture his first Art Ross Trophy.

Having evolved as a player in recent years, MacKinnon has gone from a one-dimensional goal-scorer to one of the game’s best all-around players. With a high motor and drive to succeed, MacKinnon doesn’t lack motivation to etch his name in hockey history.

Having come up short in two straight seasons, 2026 could finally be the year that MacKinnon leads all scorers and is named the Art Ross Trophy winner.

Macklin Celebrini

Dec 13, 2025; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA; San Jose Sharks center Macklin Celebrini (71) skates against the Pittsburgh Penguins during the third period at PPG Paints Arena.

As a surprise contender in the latest odds to win the Art Ross Trophy, there’s a legitimate chance for 19-year-old Macklin Celebrini to tie Sidney Crosby and Wayne Gretzky as the youngest players ever to win the award.

After a solid rookie season in 2025 that saw him put up 63 points in 70 games played, Celebrini has taken his game to new heights this season, nearly doubling his point production from last year in half the number of games played.

With his potential showing no bounds, look for Celebrini to get stronger as the season goes on, as we may be witnessing the next big thing in hockey with Celebrini winning the Art Ross trophy in 2026.

What is the Art Ross Trophy?

The NHL Art Ross Trophy is awarded to the player who leads the league in total points (goals plus assists) at the end of the regular season. Ties are broken first by most goals scored, then by fewest games played, and finally by the player who scored the first goal of the season.

The Art Ross Trophy was introduced in the 1947-48 season and is named after former player, on-ice official, head coach, and general manager Art Ross. Ross was instrumental in developing and improving the game of hockey, from being considered the first defenseman to carry the puck up the ice to designing better nets and creating the red line. Ross was also the first head coach and general manager of the Boston Bruins. During his tenure there, he led the Boston Bruins to three Stanley Cup titles.
