Current Nominations for Vezina Trophy
The NHL has announced the three Vezina finalists for the 2024-2025 NHL season. Here are the Vezina finalists:
Connor Hellebuyck
Connor Hellebuyck’s dominance in net has made him the runaway favourite in the NHL Vezina Trophy odds for 2024-25. Leading all goaltenders with 47 wins, a 2.00 goals-against average, .925 save percentage, and eight shutouts, Hellebuyck’s consistency and elite play have set him apart from other Vezina finalists. His ability to deliver in high-pressure situations has anchored the Winnipeg Jets’ defence, and he’s become just the seventh goalie in NHL history to record at least 45 wins in a season, marking a significant milestone for both himself and the franchise.
Hellebuyck’s stellar season has propelled the Winnipeg Jets to a 56-22-4 regular-season record, earning them the 2024-25 Presidents Trophy. His performances not only boost his Vezina Trophy hopes but have also placed him firmly into the Hart Trophy conversation, underlining his impact on the team’s success and their pursuit of their first Stanley Cup victory.
Darcy Kuemper
Darcy Kuemper has emerged as a dark horse in the Vezina Trophy futures odds this season, delivering a career-reviving performance with the Los Angeles Kings. The 34-year-old netminder posted a 2.02 goals-against average and .922 save percentage across 50 appearances, including five shutouts, matching his career high. His standout stretch from March onward saw him go 10-2-1 with a 1.15 GAA and .951 save percentage, anchoring the Kings’ defensive system and propelling them into playoff contention.
Kuemper’s consistency has been instrumental in Los Angeles’ success in 2025, particularly during a 13-game streak allowing two or fewer goals in each game late in the season. With a 31-11-7 record in 50 games, he’s been a cornerstone of the Kings’ improved defensive metrics (second in GA/GP at 2.51). While Connor Hellebuyck remains the NHL awards favourite, Kuemper’s resurgence has positioned him as a legitimate contender to win the Vezina Trophy, showcasing his ability to thrive under pressure in a major role.
Andrei Vasilevskiy
Andrei Vasilevskiy continued to solidify his status as one of the NHL’s most consistent goaltenders during the 2024-25 season, anchoring the Tampa Bay Lightning with a 38-20-5 record, 2.18 goals-against average, .921 save percentage, and six shutouts. His performance earned him a fifth career Vezina Trophy finalist nod, further cementing his legacy as a perennial contender for the league’s top goaltending honour. Notably, Vasilevskiy became the fastest goalie in NHL history to reach 300 career wins during the regular season, achieving this milestone in 490 games, on November 14, 2024. This achievement underscores his elite longevity.
While Vezina betting odds heavily favoured Connor Hellebuyck, Vasilevskiy’s campaign reinforced his reputation as a clutch performer, maintaining a .945 save percentage during an eight-game winning streak and delivering critical saves under pressure. A former-Vezina Trophy winner (2019-20) and multi-time finalist, he extended his streak to eight consecutive seasons with 30+ wins, joining legends like Martin Brodeur and Patrick Roy. His steadiness kept the Lightning competitive in the 2025 Stanley Cup odds conversation, even as he pursued individual success in down the stretch of the season.

Factors Influencing Vezina Trophy Winner Voting
Here are the main factors and statistics that the NHL general managers take into consideration when choosing the Vezina Trophy finalists and eventual winner:
Player Performance
Vezina Trophy voting by NHL general managers heavily prioritizes individual performance metrics such as:
- Save percentage
- Goals-against average
- Total number of wins
- Player consistency across a high volume of starts (typically 50+ games)
- Previous nominations
Impact of Team Performance
Goalies on playoff-bound teams are heavily favoured in Vezina Trophy voting because their performance directly correlates with team success, which general managers often prioritize when evaluating impact. A high team standing (e.g., Presidents’ Trophy contention) validates a goalie’s ability to sustain elite play under pressure. Strong defensive teams also enhance traditional stats like wins and shutouts, which remain key voting factors. At the same time, playoff-bound rosters typically face higher stakes, amplifying a goalie’s value in critical moments.

Why is it Called the Vezina Trophy?
The Vezina trophy is named after Georges Vezina, the Montreal Canadiens’ goaltender from 1910 to 1925, who died of tuberculosis in 1926. This trophy was first awarded in the 1926-27 season, right after Vezina’s passing. From 1946 to 1982, the trophy was awarded to the goaltender who allowed the fewest goals during the regular season. This has since been given its own trophy, the William M. Jennings trophy. Now, the Vezina trophy is awarded to the best goalie of the regular season based on GAA, games played, and more, as voted on by NHL general managers.

NHL Vezina Trophy Odds FAQs
Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets is the overwhelming favourite to win the 2024-25 Vezina Trophy, holding odds with a 99.01% implied probability and dominating key goaltending statistics such as save percentage, goals-against average, shutouts, and total wins.
Connor Hellebuyck has won the Vezina Trophy twice in his career, first in the 2019-20 season and again in 2023-24.
The Vezina Trophy winner is determined by a vote of the NHL’s 32 general managers, who submit ballots at the conclusion of the regular season ranking their top three goaltenders. The goalie with the highest total points from this voting process is awarded the trophy as the league’s best at the position.
The player with the most Vezina Trophies of all time is Jacques Plante, who won the award seven times during his career, including five consecutive wins from 1956 to 1960 and another in 1962, plus sharing it in 1969. Plante’s record remains unmatched, making him the NHL’s all-time leader in Vezina wins.
