Who Do Bettors Favor for the 2021/22 Premiership?

The sportsbook futures market for the Scottish Premiership is usually dominated by the two main Glasgow clubs, and this year is no exception, though the balance of power has shifted decisively, according to bettors, as Rangers are the strong favourites, with Celtic some way back in the betting.

Outside the top two, there are some typically big odds to be found on the main challengers. Aberdeen finished fourth last time around but have the clear edge on the rest of the field, according to bettors, while there is a hint of support for Hibernian and their Edinburgh rivals Hearts.

Which Team will win the Premiership in 2021/22?

If you’re wondering why Celtic and Rangers dominate the Scottish Premiership betting, consider this fact: between them, these two Glasgow giants have won the last 36 Premiership titles. You have to go back to the 1984/85 season to find the last time any other club claimed the crown, and that was Aberdeen, who won back-to-back titles under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Supremacy has ebbed and flowed over the years, and last season saw another major swing in Premiership dominance as Rangers, under Steven Gerrard, won their first title in ten years, ending Celtic’s run of success, and precipitating the departure of boss Neil Lennon and a summer of crisis at Celtic Park. New manager Ange Postecoglou was not the fans’ first choice, and he faces the challenge of rebuilding a much-depleted squad while finding a way to beat the Rangers.

There are no such worries for Gerrard, who has been able to retain all of his key players and has a settled, confident side, and it is no surprise to see Rangers such a short price here.

Which Team is a Good Wager for the Premiership League Top Five?

Only the top two in the Premiership qualify for the Champions League, but teams that finish third to fifth earn a spot in the Europa League qualifying rounds, so there’s plenty to play for teams outside the top two, who will be expected to finish first and second again this season.

Aberdeen, Hibernian and newly-promoted Hearts are the main contenders for the top five. Stephen Glass has been given the task of producing a more attacking style of play at Aberdeen, but he could be hard-pressed to hold off the challenge of Hibernian, who finished third at the first attempt under Jack Ross last season, and Hearts, who will want to make an impact back in the top flight.

While all three have excellent chances of getting into the top five, and possibly even overtaking Celtic if the Glasgow club has a nightmare campaign, a better wager could be St Johnstone. Callum Davidson’s side was the second biggest story of Scottish football (soccer) last season, winning both domestic cup competitions and finishing fifth in the table, and the evidence suggests that was no fluke campaign, so they look like good outsiders to finish in the European places.

Who will win the Premiership Golden Boot?

Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard has won the last two Top Scorer titles in the Scottish Premiership, while his old Rangers opponent Alfredo Morelos won three years ago, but this time around there could be a new name at the top of the scoring charts.

As part of Celtic’s rebuild, they have added Kyogo Furuhashi, signed by Vissel Kobe in Japan, and the striker has already made an impact, scoring three times in a thrashing of Dundee. His arrival has diminished Edouard’s chances of dominating in this competition, and Celtic fans will be hoping the competition between the two will help propel the team to greater heights.

Morelos and last year’s runner-up Kemar Roofe are also prominent in the betting, but Rangers’ system tends to spread the scoring round (last season they had four players in the top ten) which doesn’t favour individual strikers. Instead, bettors may be interested in Kevin Nisbet, at Hibs, who bagged 14 goals last season or Aberdeen’s new exciting US striker, Christian Ramirez.

Which Teams will be relegated from the Premiership?

One team goes down automatically from the Premiership, while the second from the bottom sides ends up in a play-off, and in a twelve-team league, the relegation struggle can be intense.

Ross County will be top of many bettors’ lists, as despite dodging the drop last season, they have the smallest squad and budget of any Premiership side. Dundee will be hoping that Charlie Adam brings the experience they need to survive, while both Livingstone and Motherwell could be vulnerable. They finished sixth and eighth respectively last season, but both clubs have lost a number of key players this summer and it isn’t hard to see them getting sucked into the battle.
