Free Picks: El Clásico: Real Madrid vs Barcelona

Free Picks: El Clásico: Real Madrid vs Barcelona

There are thirteen games left to play in the 2019/20 season and Barcelona are two points ahead of Madrid. Barcelona goes into this one in fine form, having won their last four games on the bounce, while Zidane’s men lost away to Levante in their last game.

We’ll head to the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday for the 03:00 pm kick-off. The La Liga title is very much a two-horse race and a win for Barcelona in this one and it could be curtains for Madrid’s title chances.

Can Los Madrilenos stop the Catalans?

Zidane recently received the news that his £150m signing Eden Hazard has broken his ankle. Normally this wouldn't be bad news for the Frenchman, he should have an abundance of alternatives to choose from for Sunday, but suspensions and injuries will cause him problems.

Madrid will host Pep Guardiola and Manchester City on Wednesday. This will be a real test for Los Blancos, as although Pep’s side has been relatively poor in the premier league this season, they will be very hungry to take something away from this season.

Barcelona has recorded 17 wins this season. They’re summer signings in the form of Antoine Griezmann and Frankie de Jong were slow to settle. But they seem to be finding their feet now, especially de Jong, who is a big favourite with the Barca board.

The La Liga betting odds favour a win for Real Madrid, though they messed things up in their last game, they have the home advantage and have probably been playing better football over the last few months. But when Messi is in this kind of form, you can't bet against him.

Take Barcelona to win.

Over/Under: Total goals over 2.5 (1.67)

The last time these two teams met in December 2019, the result ended 0-0 at the Camp Nou. We expect this game to be quite different from the last time they met. Given where we are in the league calendar, we know both teams won’t settle for a draw.

Real Madrid hasn’t won an El Clásico in their last seven. Three draws in their last seven head-to-head games are the best they’ve managed.

As one might expect, Lionel Messi is the best performing player in the 2019/20 La Liga campaign. He’s managed 18 goals and 12 assists for the season so far. Next on that list is Real’s Karim Benzema, who’s got 13 goals and 6 assists.

The soccer betting odds are quite favourable for this wager. Real Madrid must win this game and we can see the game being quite open. We expect this to be a high-intensity game, with both sides going all out for the three points.

Pick goals to go over 2.5 total.

Parlay Pick: Barcelona to win & both teams to score (4.50)

Rodrygo won’t be available on Sunday, after receiving a second yellow card for taunting the opposition goalkeeper during a B-team game this week. Given Benzema’s lack of form and the fact Hazard is out of action for the rest of the season, Rodrygo would have been ideal.

Sergi Roberto is still injured and won’t be back for four weeks, so it will be Nelson Semedo filling in at right-back slot. We can expect to see Frankie De Jong and Arthur partnering Sergio Busquets in midfield.

It will be a tough game for both sides, with a lot at stake anything can happen. If Madrid can contain Lionel Messi, they will have a chance. Barcelona has lacked a clear game-plan this season, instead of relying on moments of brilliance from their myriad stars.

This game is forecast to be one of the games of the season. For this reason, we’ve made this our soccer free pick of the week. A game to watch for the neutral, but expect Barca to push things over the line.
