Vegas Golden Knights (1.83) vs San Jose Sharks (2.63)
One of the rivalries heating up in the American southwest is the grudge between the Golden Knights and the Sharks. After losing 4-1 in Vegas to begin the season, San Jose will host the Golden Knights on Friday night and try to extract some quick revenge.
Similar to last year, the Golden Knights are considered among the top candidate to rise to a Stanley Cup final in a fiercely competitive west. Vegas lost their series against the Sharks last playoffs, despite holding a 3-1 series lead.
Vegas looks stronger than last year and should defeat the Sharks again en route to a Pacific Division crown.
Winnipeg Jets (2.77) vs New Jersey Devils (2.21)
First overall pick Jack Hughes will be under the microscope this season, especially as the New Jersey Devils MVP Taylor Hall enters his contract season. Winnipeg will be under scrutiny for an entirely different reason after a tough offseason drained their defensive corps.
This could be the highest scoring game of the weekend because of New Jersey’s new stars, who include proven scorers P.K. Subban and Wayne Simmons. The Jets are still a solid team, but their defense will struggle to adjust, especially without Byfuglien.
Expect an impressive debut from Hughes in a Devils victory as the Jets defense struggles.
Montreal Canadiens (3.80) vs Toronto Maple Leafs (1.82)
The most storied rivalry in hockey history continues on Saturday, with Les Habitants travelling down the 401 to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Scotiabank Arena.
As one of the most powerful offenses in the NHL, the Leafs will look to build upon their easy win over the upstart Ottawa Senators.
Montreal played above expectations last season, even if they weren’t able to squeeze into the playoffs.
Toronto’s won seven of their last eight matches against Montreal, a trend which should hold this season because of the massive talent gap between the two.
Expect Toronto to remain unbeaten.
Dallas Stars (2.95) vs St. Louis Blues (2.15)
The Dallas Stars were inches from eliminating the eventual Stanley Cup winning St. Louis Blues last playoffs, dropping a game seven double overtime in the second round.
This regular season rematch will feature a reinforced Dallas offense up against the bruising Blues defenders.
St. Louis stumbled out of the gates this season with a overtime loss to the 2018 Stanley Cup winners, the Washington Capitals. Now that the banner lifting ceremony has come and gone, St. Louis will refocus on the task at hand: becoming repeat winners of the cup.
Back the Blues getting their first win of the season on Saturday.
