New York Islanders (1.80) vs Toronto Maple Leafs (2.05)
The Maple Leafs are in a rut at the moment. They enter this game off the back of 2 consecutive losses to the Flyers and Blackhawks.
However, they have played well this season and sit at 13th in the NHL power rankings so far this season.
Toronto sits at 11th in the league in scoring with an average of 3.35 goals per game, with Austin Matthews leading the scoring charts. Toronto is 9-6-4 outright for the season.
The Islanders are having an even better season. They just won their 11th in the last twelve games, putting them at 12-3-1 overall. The Islanders have the wind behind them at the moment and will look to punish this Maple Leafs team.
The Islanders haven’t been fluid in attack throughout the season, but have managed to get by with a solid defensive structure and sticking to the game plan.
But they are due a loss and the Maple Leafs are more than capable of coming away with the points.
Take Maple Leafs to win.
Parlay Play: Maple Leafs to win & game to go over 5.5 (3.69)
The Islanders have quietly walked their way up the Metropolitan Division and find themselves in second.
Consistently winning and putting in performances, playing around a solid defense has given them the edge in the majority of their games.
The Islanders have been so good in defense that they are ranked 1st in goals against for the 2019/20 campaign, allowing just 2.19 goals per game.
In offense they have been working as a team, with an even spread of goalscorers throughout the roster.
They are led by Mathew Barzal, who grabbed his seventh of the season against the Panthers, leads the Islanders scoring table.
Toronto has a very capable offense unit and will look to unleash its potential on the homeside tonight.
The NHL betting odds favour a homeside victory, but we feel if Andersen has a good game in goal and the Maple Leafs offense show what they can do, they’ll come away with the points.
Take Toronto to win & total over 5.5 goals.
A fiery start, first period both teams to score (2.40)
When we saw this fixture, we felt it would be a pretty tasty matchup. The Maple Leafs need a win here to get back on track and the Islanders’ winning run must end at home stage, so it was our NHL free pick of the day.
The Maple Leafs will have Frederik Andersen in between the pipes for this one. He’s managed 9-2 and has a goals against average of 2.62.
The Maple Leafs will need to maintain a solid defense. If they are to overcome this high-flying Islanders team.
For the homeside, it’ll be the big Russian Semyon Varlamov in goal. He’s 5-2 for the season and has a goals against average of 2.37.
Both teams will look to come out and set the tone of the match early on. They will both be up for this, which may be for different reasons but we can see the first period being a display of offensive power at each end.
Take both teams to score in the first period.
One for Islanders, Parlay Pick: Islanders to win & to score 4+ goals (4.10)
We went against the bookies today with the visitors to win, so we thought we’d find a smart wager for Islanders fans to get in on the action.
It is all about the Maple Leafs ability to break down Barry Trotz’s defensive unit. This is certainly something Toronto is capable of, but the loss of right winger Mitch Marner is going to have an impact on their offense.
The loss of Marner means a season debut for Zach Hyman, who managed 15 goals and 25 assists last season. It will be interesting to see how he settles into this game.
The New York Islanders will be keen to stay hot. It was hard to go against an Islanders win here, due to the fact they are just so productive.
They are averaging a league-low 27.6 shots a game, whilst averaging just over 2.00 goals against per game.
This will be a tight game in front of a boisterous crowd at the Nassau Coliseum.
Take the Islanders to win & score 4+ goals.
