The Edmonton Oilers visit Prudential Center in Newark on Tuesday, Nov. 3, with puck drop against the New Jersey Devils scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST. Our Oilers vs. Devils prediction backs Jesper Bratt to record at least one point.
New Jersey has won four of its last five games, but remains without defenceman Seamus Casey following knee surgery. Edmonton is without Zach Hyman, who is out with a neck injury.

Our Oilers vs. Devils Prediction
Jesper Bratt over 0.5 points
We like Bratt to record a point because his playmaking gives him a route onto the scoresheet without needing to beat Edmonton’s goaltender himself. He has two goals and 10 assists across 14 NHL regular-season games, making an assist the clearest basis for this full-game points wager.
Bratt is projected on New Jersey’s first line alongside Jack Hughes and Arseny Gritsyuk, as well as its first power-play unit. Those assignments remain tentative, but sharing those offensive opportunities with Hughes is central to the case.
Edmonton’s defence is the strongest objection. The Oilers have won their last three games, beating Calgary 4–0, the Islanders 4–0, and the Rangers 4–1. One goal allowed over that stretch leaves little room for opposing scorers.
Still, we don’t need New Jersey to win or turn this into a high-scoring game. Bratt’s assist-led production and projected deployment keep us on the one-point target, with either a goal or an assist enough to cash.

Betting the Oilers (11-4 SU, 10-5 ATS, 8-7 o/u)
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is set to become Edmonton’s regular-season games-played leader with his 1,038th appearance for the club, surpassing Kevin Lowe. His assessment of the Islanders win offers a useful explanation for the Oilers’ improved defensive results.
“Our defensive game tonight, I thought, was one of the best that I’ve been a part of, for sure,” Nugent-Hopkins said. He also acknowledged that “there’s going to be little breakdowns” and “you need a goalie to step up and make the big saves.”
That balance matters in Newark. Edmonton needs to maintain its collective defensive work without expecting every mistake to go unpunished against Hughes and Bratt.
Mike Babcock also credited the group around Nugent-Hopkins, Colton Dach, and Kasperi Kapanen: “With Nuge back, I mean, it was back-to-back, so it was harder, but Dacher, Kappy and Nuge have been very effective for us, to say the least.”
Connor McDavid linked individual success to adapting to “a new system, a new way of playing,” calling it “a by-product of everyone playing well.” For Edmonton, sustaining that broader contribution is more convincing than simply asking its leading scorers to carry another road game.
Isaac Howard remains day-to-day with a lower-body injury after missing Sunday’s game against the Rangers, leaving another question in the forward group.
Betting the Devils (9-5 SU, 5-9 ATS, 10-4 o/u)
A 4–2 road win in Vegas on Oct. 30 gave New Jersey a response to its 5–2 loss in Colorado. Sheldon Keefe was particularly pleased with how the Devils protected their lead.
“In terms of playing with a lead, it’s probably the best third period we’ve had in the season,” Keefe said. “We couldn’t ask for more in terms of the response.”
That execution is worth carrying forward against Edmonton: New Jersey needs to generate offence without giving the Oilers easy chances to answer.
Connor Brown joined the top power-play unit during Monday’s practice. “First of all, he brings familiarity,” Keefe said. “That group had a lot of success, and we liked it a lot at the end of the season last season.”
Bratt said Brown “has a lot of knowledge” and had helped players “evolve our game a little bit in the power play.” The practice adjustment gives New Jersey another combination to consider, although Brown’s game assignment remains unconfirmed.
Evan Rodrigues is questionable because of illness. Anthony Mantha remains day-to-day after leaving the Vegas game and not returning; Keefe had no update immediately afterward. Those uncertainties leave parts of the Devils’ forward deployment unsettled.
