Our Flames vs. Oilers Prediction

Joel Farabee over 0.5 points

Farabee’s recent production makes the over on his points total our preferred play: he has recorded at least one point in each of his last six regular-season games, posting nine points total over that stretch. His latest outing brought a goal and an assist against Toronto.

Playing on the top line and power-play unit, Farabee is averaging 19 minutes of ice time per game, frequently pushing over 20 on some occasions. His increased role and ice time make him a valuable target in the points market on a red-hot Flames team.

Probable Starting Goaltenders

  • Calgary: Devin Cooley (4-2, 2.67 GAA, .914 SV%)
  • Edmonton: Tristan Jarry (2-3, 3.33 GAA, .869 SV%)

Betting the Flames (5-6 SU, 5-6 ATS, 5-6 o/u)

A 5-2 home win over Toronto extended Calgary’s winning streak, but taking that form on the road is the next test. The Flames have just one win and three losses across their four October road games.

Ryan Huska credits simpler execution for the improvement. “We look like a faster team right now, because I think we’re doing things the right way,” the Calgary coach said. “We’re playing a simpler brand of hockey and it’s resulting in more opportunities and guys are now having success, so you can see the confidence starting to grow.”

Matvei Gridin echoed that view, saying playing the right way gives Calgary room to be more creative with the puck. Against Edmonton, keeping that balance matters: the Flames need opportunities without abandoning the approach Huska believes is driving their improvement.

Special teams offer a concrete route to competing. Calgary has scored a power-play goal in five consecutive games, converting at 41.2 per cent since Oct. 15 with seven goals shared among six scorers. The penalty kill has erased 11 consecutive opposition power plays. Maintaining that execution would help Calgary avoid needing to trade goals at even strength.

Betting the Oilers (8-4 SU, 7-5 ATS, 8-4 o/u)

Edmonton is coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to Detroit at Rogers Place. Mike Babcock felt the Oilers improved against the Red Wings after a poor performance against Toronto, but his priority remains greater defensive consistency.

“We have to get comfortable in a tight-checking atmosphere where they give you no room, because in the end, if we want to be successful, that’s where we’ve got to thrive,” Babcock said. “To think we’re just going to go up and down the ice and play river hockey and have success, we’re not.”

That emphasis puts pressure on Edmonton to contain a Calgary team finding confidence in simpler play. The Oilers’ projected first line features Vasily Podkolzin and Leon Draisaitl alongside Connor McDavid, although those combinations remain tentative. Sustaining pressure with that group would give Calgary less time to build its own attack.

Mattias Ekholm and Jason Dickinson were hoping to return against the Flames, with final medical decisions pending. Ekholm said he had cleared protocols following a head injury and had no headache or symptoms. Dickinson had been limited to three appearances after an ankle injury before a groin issue surfaced at practice on Oct. 14.

Zach Hyman also left the Detroit game with an injury. Babcock had no update on Tuesday, leaving Hyman’s participation against Calgary uncertain.

  • Connor Murphy has blocked two shots or more in five straight games and in nine of 12 this season. He’s -250 to beat that mark again.
