#6 Munnyfor Ro comes in as the horse to beat. She comes into the Queen’s Plate out of a strong victory in the Woodbine Oaks and keeps strong rider Justin Stein in the irons. Fillies have a very strong recent record throughout Queen’s Plate history, and her improving form makes her a strong contender as she makes her first start against males.

Munnyfor Ro does her best work as a closer, and that style ought to suit this race. Even though she runs on late, she does not need a complete collapse to make a good run. With so many horses in this year’s Queen’s Plate who do like to be close to the lead, Munnyfor Ro should get some honest fractions and should be able to run on strongly late.

Though #7 Riptide Rock is stretching out a lot, from six furlongs all the way out to ten, there is every reason he can make a strong showing. He showed in his allowance win last out that he could handle the Tapeta footing beautifully. And, between his two-turn form at Oaklawn and his excellent distance pedigree, he can be a real contender at the mile and a quarter.

Stalking-to-midpack type #8 Keep Grinding is the morning line favourite. It is a bit of a concern that he loses regular rider Justin Stein to Munnyfor Ro. However, he gets an excellent replacement in Rafael Hernandez. Keep Grinding ran a good second in open stakes last time, and may be able to return to peak performance and winning from third off his break.

Queen’s Plate Longshots

#10 Dance Some Mo is a price horse with a lot of reasons to like him in the Queen’s Plate. Trained by Graham Motion, he makes his debut in stakes company. However, from an open allowance company, that will not be the biggest step forward in class. And, he is bred excellently for this trip, being by Uncle Mo and descending from a family that has been excellent in the Plate, that of Dance Smartly and Dancethruthedawn.

Dance Some Mo has shown enough tactical speed to work out a good trip from his relatively outside gate. It is also good to see Patrick Husbands aboard; Husbands is an experienced Woodbine jockey who has already won two Queen’s Plates during his illustrious career.

Another longshot with a strong chance to improve is #12 Tidal Forces. Though he has tables to turn on several of these foes who beat him in the Marine (G3) last out, he has only raced three times so he is lightly enough raced to improve. He is tactical enough to work out a trip from the outside gate. He also has a nine-furlong win already as well as a strong distance pedigree, being by Malibu Moon from the close female family of the long-winded turfer Irish Mission.
