Beijing 2022 Betting Picks; Can Canada Claim Women’s Curling Gold?

alt="Beijing 2022 Betting Picks; Can Canada claim Women's Curling Gold?"

The Canada Women’s Curling team is widely regarded as one of the nation’s best chances for a gold medal at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, here we look at their chances and bring you our curling betting picks.

In 2018 at Pyeongchang, Team Canada could only manage a disappointing sixth-place finish. The team led by Rachel Homan suffered the ignominy of being the first Canadian women’s Curling team to not come away with a medal.

This year the team is led by skip Jennifer Jones. Jones was the skip when Team Canada won the gold back at the Sochi 2014 Games. She will be joined in the team by Kaitlyn Lawes, Jocelyn Peterman, Dawn McEwen, and Lisa Weagle.

Lawes won gold in this event in 2014, as well as gold in the mixed curling in 2018. As for Petermen, this is her first Olympics, while Dawn McEwan is also another member of the 2014 winning side.

Lisa Weagle is the only member of the side that went out in the group stages in Pyeongchang with Team Homan. Weagle was announced as a member of the Team Jones’ quintet in March 2020.

This is a strong five lady Canadian team. Only Jocelyn Peterman has no Olympic experience, and three of the five already have Olympic gold medals. And looking at the competition, they are going to need to be strong.

In the latest Olympic sports bettingTeam Canada is 3.60 with the best Canadian Sportsbooks. But they are closely followed by Sweden at 3.75, Team GB at 4.00, and the Swiss at 4.50.

Of the other six nations, don’t totally rule out Team USA, Japan, South Korea, and the ROC team. Only really China and Denmark look there to make up the numbers.

Who Are The Defending Champions?

Back in 2018, the Olympic gold medal was won by the Swedish team.

The Swedes – led by Anna Hasselborg defeated South Korea 8-3 in the final. The bronze medal was won by Japan, who defeated Team GB 5-3 in the bronze medal match.

Of the winning Swedish team, four members are still the same. Anna Hasselborg, Sara McManus, Agnes Knochenhauer, and Sofia Mabergs, will all be looking to add to the golds they won in South Korea four years ago.

They will be joined this time around by Johanna Heldin, who is the final member of the quintet.

2022 Women’s Curling Betting Picks

Team Jones knows they have what it takes to win Olympic gold. They have a gold medal from eight years ago, and although that’s a long time ago in the world of sport, they will see that as a positive.

They will also be determined to put the wrongs of 2018 right. Not even making it to the playoffs in Pyeongchang was seen as something of a national embarrassment in Canada.

It will be tough to beat the Swedish team though. They also have an Olympic pedigree having won a more recent Olympic gold in 2018.

I feel these are the two teams to beat. They meet in the Canadians third round-robin match, which takes place this Sunday. The clash should give us an indication of who the stronger team is.

If pushed, I do think the Swedes will take the gold. They would be my main pick.

But if you do want a patriotic bet on Canada, which I don’t discount at all, then why not take advantage of one of the great betting bonus offers we have available on our best Canadian Sportsbooks Reviews page.

I feel that Canada will get something from these games, but just probably not the gold. So my final betting pick is for Team Canada to win any medal at the 2022 Winter Olympic games.
