Bellator 231 - Frank Mir vs Roy Nelson
Bellator: Mir vs Nelson 2 will be headlined by two of the most popular heavyweights to grace MMA.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir will rematch fan favourite Roy Nelson. The pair previously fought in 2011 with Mir taking home a unanimous decision victory.
Mir vs Nelson marks the old school "grappler versus striker" mould regardless of the fact that both men are well-versed MMA fighters. Mir is traditionally a submissions specialist (nine of his 18 wins are via submission) but has improved his boxing over the years.
Nelson is a knockout artist with 14 of his 23 wins coming via this method.
Scott Coker says Frank Mir gave thumbs up on Roy Nelson fight, loser could get cut https://t.co/LEBxl3PqTh
— MMA Junkie (@MMAjunkie) September 10, 2019
Both fighters need a win badly as they are only a combined 1-5 in their Bellator tenure. With both way past their prime, this fight could either end quickly or drag on.
Nelson should beat Mir. He still has knockout power and Mir has been susceptible to getting knocked out.
Bellator 231 - Phil Davis vs Karl Albrektsson
Davis vs Albrektsson pits one of the light heavyweight division's most accomplished veterans against a talented prospect. Although there is no doubting this match in terms of odds: Davis will be a big favourite.
The former Bellator champion has faced the best light heavyweights and has only lost to future champions or title contenders. This is a stiff test right off the bat for the Swede who has an 8-2 record and is on a three-fight winning streak.
— Cageside Press (@Cagesidepress) October 3, 2019
It's too much too soon for Albrektsson. Expect Davis to win this fight using his superior wrestling and athleticism to get a clear-cut decision or a stoppage.
Bellator 231 - Ed Ruth vs Jason Jackson
Arguably Bellator's most talented wrestling prospect, Ed Ruth returns looking to string consecutive victories against Jason "The Ass-Kicking Machine" Jackson.
Jackson gets style points for his nickname, but he will be severely overmatched here against a potential future champion.
Ruth, a three-time NCAA Division I wrestling champion, has only lost to Neiman Gracie, another elite prospect whose only loss is to the champion, Rory Macdonald.
— Dead (EZ) Ruth (@edruth67) October 4, 2019
Ruth can always use his wrestling to dominate Jackson, but if he wants to "stand and bang", he can do that.
As a wrestler, Ruth has knockout power and is gifted athletically. But as a smart fighter, he'll take this to the ground for an easy win.
Bellator 231 - Bec Rawlings vs Ilara Joanne
"Rowdy" Bec Rawlings returns to MMA action to take on Brazilian Ilara Joanne. Rawlings, a UFC vet is also a bareknuckle fighter and is one of the more colourful fighters around. Joanne is relatively unknown and has an 8-4 record though against local competition.
While Rawlings is a journeywoman and not that great of a fighter, she's good enough to beat Joanne who just isn't on her level in terms of skill and experience.
— Women's MMA Rankings (@WMMARankings) September 28, 2019
Rawlings should outbox Joanne and snuff whatever grappling or wrestling the Brazilian will attempt. Although this is the type of fight you should avoid betting by all means.
Where to watch Bellator 231 fights?
When it comes to Bellator, it's almost the same as it is with the UFC. Technically, not really. Where you watch UFC is different from where you catch Bellator.
Bellator airs mostly on the Paramount Network (formerly Spike TV) or DAZN, an online streaming service. Occasionally, Bellator will host a pay-per-view you can buy from your local cable subscription. And rarely, but they exist, you can catch Bellator at your local pub.
Scott Coker has mentioned bringing Bellator to Canada more often. But as far as airing it on a Canadian network, it has yet to be done.
