The biggest golf event of the year to date takes place at Sawgrass this week, so here is our 2022 Players Championship Betting Picks.
The Players Championship is the first real big event on the golfing calendar of 2022. And this year's field is no different from any others, meaning, it's extremely competitive.
The defending champion is Justin Thomas. The one-time major winner shot a four-under-par final round to finish on -14 and win the competition by one shot.
In the pre-tournament The Players betting odds, Thomas is a 15.00 joint-favorite to win the title again this year.
2022 Players Championship Betting
The betting favorites for this year’s Players Championship are Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas. Both players are currently 15.00 to win.
Spaniard Rahm is the current world number one and was originally the 12.00 betting favorite to win his first title here at Sawgrass.
But in last weekend’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, Rahm finished 7 shots behind eventual winner, Scottie Scheffler, after firing disappointing 74s in both his 3rd and 4th rounds. This after having been well placed at the halfway point.
Rahm's record as Sawgrass isn't the greatest either, and his joint-favorites tag is more down to him being current world number one than it is his previous form in this event.
Last year he finished tied 9th, on -8, six shots behind the winner, Justin Thomas.
In his previous three visits to Sawgrass, he finished T12 in 2019, T63 in 2018, and T72 in 2017. That's not exactly a record that might have you rushing out to back him.

As we've already mentioned, Justin Thomas is the 15.00 joint-favorite to retain his title. Joint third in the golf betting odds are Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa, both at 17.00.
They are just ahead of a cluster of players on 21.00, including Americans, Patrick Cantlay, and Dustin Johnson.
>Also on 21.00 is in-form Norwegian, Viktor Hovland. Arnold Palmer Invitational winner, Scottie Scheffler has seen his odds cut from 36.00 to 23.00, following his second PGA Tour win in his last three starts.

2022 Players Championship Picks
Now let's get ourselves some betting picks, and a quick heads up, I’m not going near Jon Rahm. He may be world number one, but he’s not had an exceptional start to 2022, and at 15.00, I think there is better value out there.
The first player I’m going to be looking at is Viktor Hovland at 21.00. Hovland was disappointed with himself in finishing runner-up to Scheffler last weekend. He is quoted as saying that he felt he “should have won” at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Hovland has won the Dubai Desert Classic earlier this year and along with his second-place finish at last weekend’s Arnold Palmer, he also has a T4 at the Genesis Invitational last month.
Hovland is in the form of his career and is one of my betting picks for The Players Championship at 21.00.
Cantlay has three top 5 finishes in the five competitions he’s played this year. He also has a 9th place finish, but he did finish in a disappointing T33 in his last outing, the Genesis Invitational.
Overall with his form like that, he has to have a chance here. So for my second pick, I’m going for Cantlay to finish in the top 5 at odds of 5.50.
I don’t see him winning at Sawgrass, but I think in this form he’s set to have another good week. So for my final betting pick, I’m going with Scottie Scheffler to finish in the top 5, also at odds of 5.50.
