About the Argonauts (3-0 SU, 3-0 ATS, 2-1 o/u)

Last game: In Week 4, Toronto pulled off an impressive 45-24 home victory over the BC Lions, who entered the contest with a perfect 3-0 record. The Argos picked off the Lions six times in the game. Three of those interceptions came courtesy of Robertson Daniel.

Stats to know:

  • Toronto has averaged league lows in rushing yards allowed per game (57.7) and yards per rush allowed (3.6). The Argos also lead the league with one rushing touchdown allowed.
  • The Argonauts are +9 in turnover ratio (four giveaways to 13 takeaways). Those takeaways have resulted in 65 of their 120 total points (54%).
  • Since Ryan Dinwiddie became the Argonauts’ head coach, they are 5-2 coming off a bye, including an active streak of four victories.

Player to watch: A.J. Ouellette

Toronto’s ground game has been impressive through three contests, averaging a league-best 136.7 yards per game. Ouellette leads the league with four rushing touchdowns (despite the Argos only playing a league-low three games to this point).

About the Alouettes (2-2 SU, 2-2 ATS, 2-2 o/u)

Last game: Lost 35-19 to the Lions in BC. The Als coughed up 17 points in the second quarter, and seven of those came off a blocked field goal that the Lions returned for a touchdown to swing the momentum in the game.

Stats to know:

  • Montreal leads the league with 12, 30-plus yard pass completions.
  • Receiver Austin Mack leads the league with 388 receiving yards and Canadian receiver Kaion Julien-Grant is also third in the stat category with 351 yards.
  • Montreal leads the league with 22 sacks allowed.
  • Ciante Evans will return to action this week after missing two games due to injury. The 30-year-old registered three interceptions in his first two games of 2023.

Player to watch: William Stanback

Montreal’s run game has struggled early in the season and the Als will have to find a way to spark Stanback, who led the league in rushing yards in 2021. The veteran running back has just 170 yards on the ground through four games (4.36 yards per carry) and he managed just six carries for 17 yards last week.

Line moves

This game opened at Argos -4, but the line has moved to Toronto -6 as kickoff nears. Some sportsbooks have even moved to Argos -6.5 as of Friday morning. There has been no movement throughout the week on the total of 48 points.

  • Montreal has failed to score first in three straight games, but the Argos have also allowed the opposition to draw first blood in their last two games as well. With the Argos shaking the rust off coming off bye week and maybe taking this game a little lightly, betting the Als to score first (+110) at home seems like a reasonable play.
  • The Argos are due for a scare after cruising through their first three games of the season and could get off to a sluggish start. Montreal needs this one to avoid falling below .500 and should keep it close at home, at least early on. The Als +3 first-half spread at even money is worth a look.
