The Carolina Hurricanes visit the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place on Thursday, with puck drop scheduled for 9 p.m. EDT. Our Hurricanes vs. Oilers prediction is backing Connor McDavid over 1.5 points, a wager that needs at least two points to cash.
Both teams enter October 22 having won four of their previous five games.

Our Hurricanes vs. Oilers Prediction
Connor McDavid over 1.5 points
McDavid has recorded at least one point in each of his last five games. Edmonton has scored 41 goals through nine games, while Carolina has 42 through 11. Both offences have been producing, and we like McDavid to have a productive night in a matchup with the potential for plenty of scoring.
The hurdle is getting a second point. That five-game run shows consistent involvement on the scoresheet, but it is not a streak of multi-point games and does not establish his likelihood of clearing this line. Carolina’s strong penalty kill also presents a meaningful obstacle to Edmonton’s power-play production.
We’ll take the points over, but this is a measured play rather than a high-confidence bet. McDavid can deliver two points without Edmonton winning, so we’re not tying the recommendation to an Oilers victory.

Betting the Hurricanes
Carolina beat Vancouver 6-3 on October 20, with Nikolaj Ehlers contributing two points in that win.
Ehlers sees a gap between Carolina’s results and its consistency. “When we do play the way we need to play, we’re a really hard team to play against,” he said.
His concern is how puck-management mistakes can turn into chances the other way. “When we don’t do that and don’t play the right way, don’t get pucks out, don’t help each other out and don’t get pucks deep, that’s when we create turnovers that come against us and odd-man rushes.”
Ehlers identified McDavid and Leon Draisaitl as central challenges, while acknowledging Edmonton’s depth beyond those two forwards. Those mistakes would be dangerous against this opponent, but Carolina’s ability to clean them up is a risk to our pick.
Seth Jarvis was activated on October 21 after recovering from off-season shoulder surgery. He practised with Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Jordan Martinook and worked with the second power-play unit, though his participation against Edmonton remains unconfirmed. Taylor Hall, Mark Jankowski and Jordan Staal are listed as out.
Betting the Oilers
Edmonton beat Minnesota 4-3 on October 20. Its power play enters Thursday converting at 31%, second in the NHL, but Carolina’s penalty kill sits fourth at 89.2%.
In that strength-on-strength matchup, we would not count on power-play scoring to carry the wager.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is day-to-day, with Edmonton expecting him to play. He is not a confirmed absence.
