Our Mammoth vs. Oilers prediction is Edmonton on the moneyline, with five straight wins giving the Oilers a recent-form case rather than a reason to get carried away.
The Oilers host the Utah Mammoth at Rogers Place on Thursday, Oct. 15, with puck drop scheduled for 9 p.m. ET. Utah arrives having won three of its last five games, including a 5–4 victory over Toronto on Oct. 13.

Our Mammoth vs. Oilers Prediction
Edmonton Oilers moneyline
Edmonton’s five-game winning streak is the clearest reason we’re backing the hosts, but Utah’s recent results make this a tougher assignment than simply riding the hotter team.
The Mammoth’s five goals against Toronto show the attacking threat to our pick. Utah also came away from that win with concerns about how it handled the third period. “We were backing off a little bit, not attacking as much as we should have been,” defenceman Mikhail Sergachev said.
If Utah sustains that attacking intent, Edmonton could have a difficult night. We’ll take the Oilers on the moneyline, but a short winning run is not enough to make this a high-confidence play.

Betting Utah Mammoth
Utah’s early regular-season baseline is 5–2, with 27 goals for and 19 against. Seven games is a small sample, but that scoring output is enough to take the Mammoth seriously against Edmonton.
Coach André Tourigny identified specific mistakes against Toronto rather than letting the victory cover them up. He pointed to a blue-line turnover that allowed Toronto possession in Utah’s zone, followed by avoidable penalties while the Mammoth were leading. One neutral-zone penalty particularly frustrated him because Toronto was skating toward its own net and posed no immediate threat.
“The number one thing that we can’t do is mismanage our success. That will lead to failure,” Tourigny said.
Those are correctable details from one game, not grounds to label Utah an undisciplined team. Cleaning them up would make the visitors a more difficult opponent for our moneyline pick. Michael Carcone and Maveric Lamoureux are listed as out for the Mammoth.
Betting Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers are 5–1 through their first six regular-season games, scoring 29 goals and allowing 18. Their latest win also provides a reason to look beyond the results: Los Angeles outshot Edmonton 40–17 on Oct. 13, including 29–10 over the final two periods.
Mike Babcock saw a distinction between that shot volume and the danger of the chances. “I thought they had good chances. But they didn’t have Grade A’s, two-on-ones,” the Edmonton coach said.
Babcock continues to emphasize team defence and small details in Edmonton’s own zone, and has expressed encouragement about the players’ commitment to that process. We still wouldn’t want the Oilers spending another night absorbing that much pressure against a Utah team capable of scoring in bunches.
“This team’s building its identity, building its structure. We’re still trying to figure things out as we go,” Connor McDavid said.
Zach Hyman and Jake Walman are listed as day-to-day. That designation does not rule either player out against Utah, but their availability remains relevant to Edmonton’s depth.
Player prop trends
- MacKenzie Weegar has recorded two or more shots on goal in four straight games. He’s around +125 to register over 1.5 shots on goal.
- Vasily Podkolzin now has an eight-game points streak dating back to last season. He’s as high as -125 at some sportsbooks to extend that streak on Thursday.
- Barrett Hayton takes a four-game points streak into action Thursday. He’s around +170 to extend that run.
- Connor McDavid has at least one assist in six straight games but he’s a long -200 if you want to back him on this prop against Utah.
