Montreal Alouettes vs. Toronto Argonauts
The stakes are incredibly high for this clash between East Division rivals, as only two points separate them in the standings after 13 games. Montreal, which sits second in the East with a 6-7 record, is coming off a massive 48-31 victory over the West-leading Saskatchewan Roughriders to snap a five-game losing streak. Toronto, meanwhile, has won three straight contests after edging out a 31-30 win over the Elks last week.
Bettors will want to glance at the injury report for this contest, as it’s quite extensive for both teams. Most notably, Argonauts quarterback Nick Arbuckle has been ruled out due to a calf injury, and Chad Kelly won’t be activated off of the six-game injured list, leaving Toronto’s starting quarterback duties to Jarret Doege for this contest. Arbuckle was injured late in Week 15’s matchup with the Elks and didn’t finish the contest. In 13 games this season, Arbuckle has completed 72.5% of his passes and thrown for a league-leading 4,089 yards.
Exactly eight players are listed as out on Montreal’s injury report ahead of this contest, including four defensive backs, leaving some serious holes in the Alouettes’ secondary. Starting quarterback Davis Alexander still isn’t ready to return from a hamstring injury despite practicing in a limited fashion this week, but Montreal does have a competent backup with veteran McLeod Bethel-Thompson ready to step in. MBT threw for 379 yards and three touchdowns a week ago and is in good form right now.
These teams have already met twice this season, with Montreal claiming two victories, although their Week 7 was decided by a single point (26-25 win).
Betting Trends
- The under is 6-2-1 in Montreal’s last nine games.
- Montreal is 2-8 against the spread in its last 10 games.
- Montreal is 4-2 SU on the road this season.
BC Lions vs. Calgary Stampeders
This is another important game for these two West Division foes, who are separated by just four points in the standings. Calgary is currently holding down the second spot in the West with 16 points, while BC sits fourth with 12. The Stampeders are coming off a disappointing 31-19 loss to the Elks in Week 14, which snapped a three-game winning streak, while BC snapped a two-game slide with a 38-27 decision over the Redblacks in Week 15. It’s also important to note that Calgary is coming off a bye week and has had extra time to heal up and prepare for this matchup.
Bettors should know about two critical injuries for the Lions, who will be without the league’s leading rusher, James Butler, and standout receiver, Jevon Cottoy, due to injury. Offensive lineman Dejon Allen and starting left tackle Jarell Broxton will also be out for BC.
The Stampeders are also banged up, with eight players listed as out and two others either questionable or doubtful for this matchup. Of those eight players listed as out, three of them are defensive linemen, most notably Folarin Orimolade, and wide receiver Malik Henry is also a notable name that won’t suit up.
This is also a classic revenge spot for Stampeders quarterback Vernon Adams Jr., as it’s the first time he’ll suit up against the team he spent the past two seasons with. He’ll be looking to take advantage of a Lions secondary that has surrendered at least 300 passing yards in three straight games, well above its 267.2 average.
Betting trends
- The over is 8-2 in BC’s last 10 contests.
- BC is 7-3 SU and 7-3 ATS in the past 10 meetings between these teams.
- The under is 7-3 in Calgary’s last 10 games.
