Methodology

How the Travel Ranking Was Calculated

The analysis covers projected regular-season travel for all 30 NBA teams in 2026-27, including two international games in Paris and Mexico City.

Step 1

Build Each Team’s Travel Schedule

Every scheduled regular-season road game for all 30 teams was mapped to the traveling team’s previous location and the next game’s venue.

Step 2

Match Venues and Coordinates

Home arenas and their geographic coordinates were matched against each team’s official 2026-27 arena.

Step 3

Calculate Leg Distance

Straight-line distance between consecutive game locations was calculated for every travel leg on the schedule, including the two international neutral-site games in Paris and Mexico City.

Step 4

Sum Each Team’s Season Total

All travel legs for a given team were summed to produce that team’s total projected regular-season travel miles.

Step 5

Rank Teams by Total Miles

Teams are ranked from highest to lowest by their total projected travel miles across the 2026-27 regular season.
