Seattle Seahawks NFL SB XLVIII Champs What's Not to Like Eh

Seattle Seahawks: Things to be wary of if backing the Champs

We open with a softball that you can take or leave as we don’t like that only two teams (Denver and New England) have won back-to-back NFL Championships over the past two decades. On the field, we don’t like that Seattle lost speedy play-makers WR Golden Tate and WR Percy Harvin from their SB XLVIII roster. Both players made contributions in that contest plus they were often used as field-stretching decoys. That allowed Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse to post a combined 131 receiving yards and two touchdowns on nine receptions. Many of those were short range under coverage plays that will be more difficult to pull off in this contest. It needs to be noted that 22 of Russell Wilson’s 25 attempts versus Denver where classified as “short” passes.

Injuries and a singing cannery are causes for concern that could clip the Hawks

Injuries to DB Richard Sherman and FS Earl Thomas are concerns – even though both defenders are slated to play. If either of them come up as lame as they did against the Packers, like with their arm almost falling off or one of their shoulders becoming longer than the other, the Patriots will immediately pick on them. Though it’s been over inflated in some circles, Seahawks starting nickel cornerback Jeremy Lane probably should not have said “I actually don’t think he’s that good” and “He’s OK” when discussing New England TE Rob Gronkowski. Care for another conspiracy theory? Maybe Lane, a third year NFL player who is 6′ 0″ and weighs 190 pounds soaking wet, is the Seahawks canary that was sent into the mine to rattle Gronk’s 6′ 6″ 265 pound cage. Lane is a slot cover man, who will have his hands full with Julian Edleman and Danny Amendola, so he may not see a lot of Paxton. That said, the Pats can be vindictive and Lane will be canary soup if/when Gronk runs underneath routes in his direction. Gronkowski sleeps better Saturday night eh?

SB XLIX Prop Call: Apart from Chargers TE Antonio Gates, who had 96 yards and 3 TD in Week 2, the seaawks didn’t allow a tight end to post more than 39 receiving yards which went to Zach Ertz during Week 14 action in Philadelphia. The Panthers Greg Olsen (58 YD) and Packers Richard Rodgers (35 YD) were the top tight ends in the Hawks previous two playoff games. That said, we expect Gronk to do some major damage as half of the Legion of Boom Four will be tackling with a bad wing. Book Gronkowski at OVER 74.5 receiving yards with a 110 unit wager at William Hill.
