The entire CFL playoff field could be set after the dust settles on Week 20 of the regular season on Saturday night.
With just two weeks remaining in the regular season, there are still two playoff spots up for grabs in pursuit of the Grey Cup in November. The Saskatchewan Roughriders, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, BC Lions, and Montreal Alouettes have already clinched playoff berths, but there’s still playoff positioning to be determined for those teams down the stretch.
Let’s take a look at the odds and the playoff clinching scenarios entering Week 20 of the CFL season.
CFL Week 20 clinching scenarios
- With an Ottawa Redblacks win over the Alouettes, Hamilton would clinch the East Division title and the right to host the Eastern Final at Hamilton Stadium on Nov. 8. Montreal would also host the crossover team in the Eastern Semi-Final on Nov. 1 in this scenario.
- A BC Lions win over the Edmonton Elks would secure a playoff berth for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
- The Calgary Stampeders would clinch a postseason berth with a win over the Toronto Argonauts, a Winnipeg loss to the Roughriders, or an Edmonton loss to BC.
- A Winnipeg loss, combined with a BC win and a Calgary loss, would give the Lions the opportunity to host the Western Semi-Final on Nov. 1.

CFL Week 20 best bet
- Roughriders under 19.5 points (-120 @ bet365). The Roughriders have scored an average of 27.2 points per game to this point in the season, but with absolutely nothing to play for in Week 20 with the West Division title already secured, several key starters will be resting for this game, including running back AJ Ouellette, defensive lineman Micah Johnson, and offensive lineman Jermarcus Hardrick. Jake Maier will get the start at quarterback, and although he’s one of the better backups in the league, he won’t have the team’s typical array of weapons supporting him in this matchup with the Blue Bombers, who will be desperate for a win at home in order to keep their playoff hopes alive. With contrasting motivations in this matchup, it makes sense to fade the Roughriders on the offensive side of the ball.
