After the start of the 2025 Canadian Football League, Canada Sports Betting conducted an analysis of 14,000 fan comments on the subreddits of the CFL fandoms to find out which team’s fans swear the most. We also dove into which teams are the most negative towards their players — and which curse words they like to use the most.

๐ The Most Foul-Mouthed CFL Fandoms
So who made the top three of the most foul-mouthed CFL team fandoms? Check out the data below to see which Canadians use the most colourful language.
#1 Foul-Mouthed Fanbase: Ottawa Redblacks
According to the results of the analysis, the Ottawa Redblacks are the most foul-mouthed fandom as 3.931% of their comments included swear words.
#2 Runner-Up: Calgary Stampeders
The second most foul-mouthed fandom turned out to be the Calgary Stampeders – 3.797% of their comments included swear words – followed by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in third place with 3.703% of their fan comments including swear words.
๐ The Most Negative CFL Fandoms
Additionally, the emotional tone of each comment was assessed and categorized as either negative, positive or neutral to find out which fandoms are the most negative.
Most Negative: Hamilton Tiger-Cats
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats were named as the #1 most negative fandom with 22.652% of their comments including a negative sentiment.
Others Who Made the List
In second place as the most negative are the Ottawa Redblacks – 22.649% of their comments were negative.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders are in third place since 22.185% of their comments had a negative sentiment.
The Least Negative CFL Fanbase
On the other hand, the Edmonton Elks are the most positive fandom – 61.3% of their comments were marked as having a positive sentiment, the most out of all the CFL fandoms.

Methodology
- In total, 14,842 comments from 9 subreddits of the 2025 CFL fandoms were analyzed, looking for comments that contained swear words (in English).
- Each fandom was assigned a percentage value based on the percentage of the comments on their subreddit that contained swear words.
- Additionally, the emotional tone of each comment was assessed and categorized as either negative, positive or neutral โ comments with a compound score below -0.05 were categorized as negative.
- The analysis was carried out in June 2025.
