Bet On Seattle Sounders’ Games
The Seattle Sounders have experienced monumental success since their MLS debut in 2009. They have made the playoffs in every season, and have never once finished a campaign with more losses than wins. Despite this amazing run, Sounders fans had to wait until 2016 for the side to finally lift the MLS Cup, ironically coming in their least dominant regular season to date.
The cup victory at the expense of Toronto FC was long overdue and capped off a dominant era in which they also won the Supporters’ Shield (in 2014) and four US Open Cups. A CONCACAF Champions League victory is basically the only competition Seattle is yet to win – pretty amazing for a side with less than ten years in the league!
Amazingly, the Sounders made it back to back MLS Cup final appearances in 2017, reaching the postseason as the Western Conference’s second seed and defeating close rivals Vancouver Whitecaps along the way. They are almost unbeatable at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, losing just once in nineteen matches in 2017. That one blemish came against a dominant Toronto FC, who they have started to build a decent rivalry with.
Speaking of rivalries, one of the lengthiest in the MLS is between the Sounders and the Portland Timbers, with both teams clashing since the original North American Soccer League that was established in the 1970s. More recently, the two clubs have joined in a three-sided rivalry with the Vancouver Whitecaps, culminating in an annual mini competition for the Cascadia Cup.
Matches between these sides are often very tough to pick as there is little between the teams. The best example is from the 2016 MLS season where each side won three and lost three at the hands of their antagonists and ended up tied on points (the cup was decided on goal difference with the Whitecaps edging out the Timbers and Sounders by one and two goals respectively). Unless you have done some solid research and are convinced you can pick a winner, these fixtures may be ones to avoid when placing wagers.
Consistency has been a strong point for the club and betting on the Sounders is usually a safe option. Unfortunately, this also means that odds will tend to be less than generous, so your best bet may be to look at the goal or player markets when considering Seattle matches. Alternatively, if you follow the club’s progress closely you may be able to determine when their opponents are in for an upset victory, so betting against them may be the smart play.
The great news is that there are always hundreds of different betting options available every matchday, so if you have done your analysis and chosen your sources wisely, you’re likely in for a winning weekend!
How many Titles have the Sounders clinched?
Founded back in 2007, the Sounders are one of the oldest teams in the league and to this day remain one of the teams to beat. In terms of silverware, the MLS Cup was won in 2016 and 2019, picking up a Supporters’ Sheild in 2014 and four U.S. Open Cup titles in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2014.
