The 2022 MLB season is well over a month old now and the divisions are starting to take shape. So with this in mind, we are going to take a look at the latest Divisional betting odds and see if we can find some good value MLB picks.
Before we do that, a quick peek at the MLB World Series odds for 2022 shows us that the LA Dodgers have been slightly backed in from 6.50 at the start of the season, to 5.84, with Sports Interaction.
|2022 MLB World Series; Winner Odds|
|New York Yankees||8.50||8.50|
|New York Mets||8.90||9.00|
|Chicago White Sox||11.44||12.00|
|Toronto Blue Jays||13.38||13.00|
|Tampa Bay Rays||14.59||15.00|
|San Diego Padres||15.80||18.00|
|Boston Red Sox||20.90||18.00|
|San Francisco Giants||22.46||21.00|
|St Louis Cardinals||27.15||25.00|
The two big movers in this market are the two New York teams. The impressive start from the Yankees has seen them cut from 10.50 to 8.50-second favourites. While their cross-town rivals, the New York Mets, are now 8.90 third-betting favourites. This, having both started the season outside of the teams expected to challenge.
American League East
The Yankees are already running away with the East Division, which is reflected in the betting odds on them winning the division. And also by the fact that they are now second-favourites to win the World Series.
- New York Yankees @ 1.51
- Blue Jays @ 3.85
- Rays @ 5.70
- Red Sox @ 32.00
- Orioles @ 501.00
The Blue Jays are really yet to get going this season and are struggling to keep pace with the Tampa Bay Rays. Despite this, the top sportsbooks still seem to think they will come good.
With such a huge lead already over the chasing pack, it’s hard to see anybody derailing the Yankees. But on current form, and looking at the league table, the Blue Jays look like the best value pick to give them a contest.
American League Central
The Minnesota Twins are the team that has got off to the better start, but despite this, the White Sox still keep their favourite tag with the best Canadian Sportsbooks.
Unlike the betting to win some of the other divisions, this one is closer.
- Chicago White Sox @ 1.73
- Minnesota Twins @ 2.60
- Cleveland Guardians @ 9.46
- Detroit Tigers @ 30.70
- Kansas Royals @ 36.05
Even though the White Sox are yet to get on a roll, they still maintain favouritism.
But when you look at the odds of all the other teams, it shows you this is an open division where the sides will all beat each other. This probably helps the White Sox.
American League West
Last season’s World Series beaten finalists, the Houston Astros, currently tops both the betting and the division.
Los Angeles is giving them a run for their money this year though, but despite that, the sportsbooks are still clearly favouring Dusty Baker’s team.
- Houston Astros @ 1.51
- LA Angels @ 3.04
- Seattle Mariners @ 10.85
- Texas Rangers @ 83.40
- Oakland Athletics @ 173.00
The division’s current underachievers are the Seattle Mariners. I expect them to improve over the coming weeks. But to put their position in perspective, they have a similar win/loss record and percentage as the Texas Rangers, and Texas is miles behind in the betting.
I wouldn’t be against having a wager on LA to upset the odds in this group. They are good value at 3.04.
National League East
Over to the National League now, and despite the New York Mets having a substantial lead at the top of the NL East, they are still quite good odds to win it.
This is down to a couple of reasons for me. First, the Mets have gone slightly off the boil, having got off to a flying start. But the main reason is the poor form of the defending world series champions, the Atlanta Brave.
- New York Mets @ 1.73
- Atlanta Braves @ 3.99
- Philadelphia Phillies @ 7.80
- Miami Marlins @ 20.62
- Washington @ 366.00
The Brave just haven’t got going and currently sit in fourth place in the division. So far this season, the Brave has lost more matches than they have won. If the Brave can get a run going though, the Mets aren’t exactly out of sight yet, and could still be caught.
National League Central
The St Louis Cardinals are doing their best to keep pace with the Brewers, but it is proving to be difficult.
There isn’t the biggest gap between the two teams, but when you look at the difference in the home records, it’s quite telling.
- Milwaukee Brewers @ 1.29
- St Louis Cardinals @ 3.18
- Chicago Cubs @ 38.00
- Pittsburgh Pirates @ 99.70
- Cincinnati Reds @ 431.00
The Brewers’ record at the American Family Field Stadium is just too strong, and I don’t see them getting caught.

National League West
There’s a large gap in the betting odds between the Dodgers and the Padres, but that’s not the case in the NL West table. The Padres are having a real go at sticking with the Dodgers, and as it stands, the favourites can’t shake off Bob Melvin’s team.
- Los Angeles Dodgers @ 1.40
- San Diego Padres @ 4.47
- San Francisco Giants @ 6.09
- Colorado Rockies @ 104.00
- Arizona Diamondbacks @ 167.00
The Dodgers aren’t favourites for no reason, though, and as the season progresses, the majority expect them to pull clear. And it’s hard to argue with that as things stand.
