MLB free agency has officially begun after the Los Angeles Dodgers claimed their second consecutive World Series title with a thrilling series win in seven games over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Now, MLB front offices will be shifting their attention to next year, with a keen focus on acquiring some of the top free agents on the open market. One of those top free agents is Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette, who has played his entire seven-year career in Toronto.
The 27-year-old, who is a career .294 hitter with 111 home runs and 437 RBIs in 749 MLB games, is projected to earn an eight-year, $208 million contract as a free agent, according to MLBTradeRumors.com. That projected massive deal means only a handful of big-market teams will likely be in the hunt for his services over the fall and winter months.
FanDuel Sportsbook, which is available to online sports bettors in Ontario, has opened up a betting market on Bichette’s next team, giving the Blue Jays the best odds to retain his services by a wide margin.

Bo Bichette next team prediction
Bichette has already publicly stated his desire to remain with the Blue Jays, so it’s not surprising to see Toronto with 67.75% implied odds to retain him in the betting markets. Toronto’s ownership, Rogers Communications, has some of the deepest pockets in the majors, and the franchise is beaming after a deep playoff run that saw the team come up two outs short of a World Series title last season. All signs are pointing to Bichette signing with Toronto.
However, there are a few teams that could make a push for Bichette based on needs. One of those teams is the Atlanta Braves (+500), who have a glaring hole at the shortstop position after Ha-Seong Kim opted out of his contract. Atlanta got only three homers and a .550 OPS from the position in 2025, and the team is already in a good position to bounce back into championship contention after a tough 2025 campaign that was marred by injuries. Bichette was born in Florida and played high school baseball in the state, so he’s no stranger to the Southeast region of the United States and its favourable weather.
Another logical potential destination for Bichette is the nearby Detroit Tigers (+1400), who are looking to get over the hump after bowing out in the American League Division Series in back-to-back seasons. Trey Sweeney played the bulk of the games at shortstop for the Tigers last season, posting an ugly .549 OPs at the plate while playing below-average defence. The team also has a vacancy at second base after Gleyber Torres became a free agent, opening up a potential spot for Bichette in the middle infield. The Tigers were aggressively pursuing big free agents last winter and will likely be in the mix again for some of the top names available.
