
Week 22 of the 2022 NHL season is here and so is the NHL Trade Deadline, which is today, Monday March 21, 2022. While much of the focus will be on the trade wire, there are still some games to talk about on the NHL schedule for the day, four of them to be exact.

Boston vs. Montreal
Date & Location: Monday, March 21 at Centre Bell in Montreal

The Boston Bruins are on a 4-1 run heading into tonight’s game against the Montreal Canadiens in Montreal. Boston’s run featured three straight wins in one-goal games before a 4-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild. The club bounced back with a 4-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Friday. Charlie Coyle scored seven points during that five-game run (2 goals, 5 assists) and Craig Smith had three goals. Jeremy Swayman has been fantastic in the net for the Bruins. The 23-year-old was on a 9-0-1 run with a 1.57 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage before losing to the Wild.
Despite being in last place in the NHL, the Montreal Canadiens had a good run in February where they went on a five-game winning streak. The team came back down to Earth in March and they are currently on a 2-3 run, but coming off a 5-1 win over the Ottawa Senators. Cole Caufield paced Montreal in those five games, scoring seven points total, five of which were goals. Jake Allen returned to the Montreal net for the first time since an injury in January. Allen posted a .967 GAA in the Ottawa game.
The Bruins have wins in the two meetings between these teams in the 2022 NHL season, 5-2 and 5-1.

Vegas vs. Minnesota
Date & Location: Monday, March 21 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN
Time: 8:00 p.m. ET

The Vegas Golden Knights and the Minnesota Wild face off tonight in an important Western Conference matchup. Minnesota is in the No. 4 spot in the Conference and Vegas checks in at No. 8. The teams are separated in the standings by four points.
Vegas is emerging from a very rough patch. The team is on a two-game winning streak after losing five in a row. The Golden Knights scored five goals in each of their two previous games after netting 11 in total over the course of the five losses. All five losses happened on the road, while the team’s wins came at home. The Golden Knights are the visiting team in Minnesota. Overall, Vegas is 16-13-1 on the road. Vegas has been without its starting goaltender, Robin Lehner since March 8.
The Wild had a rough stretch of their own between mid-February and early March, where the club went 2-8. The club is now on a 4-2 run and coming off back-t0-back home wins where they outscored their opponents 7-3 in total. Kirill Kaprizov has five points (four goals) in the Wild’s past five outings. Goaltender Cam Talbot has wins in his past four starts for Minnesota.
Vegas is 2-0 over Minnesota this season with wins of 3-2 and 6-4. The clubs have not played each other since December 12.

Edmonton vs Colorado
Date & Location: Monday, March 21 at Ball Arena in Denver, CO
Time: 9:30 p.m. ET

The No. 1 team in the Central Division faces the No. 3 team in the Pacific Division tonight when the Edmonton Oilers travel to Denver to face the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche, who are the top team in the Western Conference, are on a three-game winning streak heading into this game, while Edmonton has won five in a row. This is the first meeting of the season between these clubs.
The Avalanche are the highest-scoring team in the NHL with 252 goals. Meanwhile, the Oilers have the two highest-scoring players in the league with Connor McDavid (90 points) and Leon Draisaitl (86 points).
Colorado’s defence and goaltending have been better than Edmonton’s this season as the Avalanche have allowed 173 goals and the Oilers have let in 196. Avalanche goalie Darcy Kuemper has back-to-back shutouts ahead of tonight’s game.
Colorado has been without team captain Gabriel Landeskog since March 13. He underwent knee surgery last week. The team is 3-0 without Landeskog.
One thing that stands out about this game is that Colorado is 24-3-3 at home and Edmonton is 16-11-4 on the road.

Nashville vs. Anaheim
Date & Location: Monday, March 21 at Honda Center in Anaheim, CA

While it looks like the Colorado Avalanche have the top spot in the Western Conference locked down — they have 93 points — the race for the second spot is up for grabs. The Flames have 84 points, but after that, the Blues (77), Wild (76), Predators (76), Kings (76), Oilers (74) and Golden Knights (72) are battling it out. Tonight, the Predators look to pick up some points against the slumping Ducks.
Nashville is 6-4 in their past 10 games and coming off a 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs. Anaheim, who have 65 points on the season, are 2-6-2 in their past 10 games and on a six-game losing skid where they have been outscored 25-11.
Pick: Nashville to beat Anaheim.
