NHL Anytime Goal-Scorer Parlay Picks For December 9

Tampa Bay Lightning right wing Nikita Kucherov (86) warms up before a game against the against the Utah Mammoth at Delta Center.

An anytime goal-scorer bet is one of the most popular and straightforward player prop wagers in NHL betting. It allows you to bet on a specific player to score a goal at any point during the game, whether it’s the first goal, last goal, or any goal in between. This bet type offers an exciting way to stay engaged with the game, as your selected player can score at any moment to cash your bet.

Let’s take a look at three skaters to parlay to score a goal in the NHL on Tuesday night, which could also be played as a round robin wager.

Nikita Kucherov to Score: +180

The Tampa Bay Lightning will look to snap their four-game losing skid Tuesday when they take on the Montreal Canadiens in the second leg of a back-to-back. The Lightning are slight betting underdogs, as third-string goaltender Brandon Halverson is expected to make his first start of the NHL season.

The Lightning will likely need a solid offensive output to have a chance in this matchup, and it certainly seems well warranted that this game features a betting total of 6.5. The Canadiens have allowed 3.46 goals against per game this season, which is the fourth-highest mark in the NHL and 3.43 xGA/60 over the last 15 games.

While Kucherov is most known for his playmaking, he’s obviously still got an excellent shot and has been generating plenty of high-quality chances on goal recently. Over the last six games, Kucherov has generated 3.06 expected goals from 23 shots on goal. Aside from their performance on Saturday versus a Toronto Maple Leafs side that looks very hit-or-miss offensively, the Canadiens’ defensive structure has looked fairly unconvincing this season. Considering his recent play, Kucherov seems quite likely to get some high-quality looks in Tuesday’s matchup.

And while I’m not a huge believer in historic head-to-head results as a predictive indicator as rosters and coaching staffs change, Kucherov has recorded three goals and five points in his last three matchups versus Montreal, which all came during Martin St. Louis’ tenure as head coach.

Leo Carlsson to Score: +190

Despite playing on what was a fairly dysfunctional offensive team under head coach Greg Cronin last season, where none of the Anaheim Ducks’ young offensive talents were really able to prosper, Carlsson showed strong offensive promise, including from a goal-scoring perspective, in particular hitting the 20-goal plateau.

It seemed quite logical to believe that Carlsson may offer a massive breakout campaign this season under head coach Joel Quenneville, and that has obviously been the case as the former second overall pick has put up 38 points and 16 goals in 29 games. He’s not really showing any signs of slowing down, either, as over the last seven games he’s recorded five goals and four assists.

Carlsson doesn’t take many borderline shots and will typically opt to allow his team to sustain possession or look to pass. Still, he’s generated 17 shot attempts over the last two games and has looked entirely dominant in those two matchups.

The Pittsburgh Penguins rank 16th in the NHL in goals against average over the last 15 games, which is roughly where they seem likely to finish this season. They aren’t an amazing matchup for Carlsson to score, but a very livable one given his recent form and a price of +180.

Tage Thompson to Score: +160

Thompson snapped a six-game goalless drought in Monday’s matchup versus the Calgary Flames, and had what would have been his second of the night come off the board after Jordan Greenway made a very bad mental lapse going offside for no reason. Prior to Thompson’s goalless drought, he had recorded goals in six straight, including a goal in his previous matchup versus the Oilers.

Hopefully seeing one go in last night will allow one of the NHL’s most lethal shooters to feel a little more confident in front of goal and kickstart another heater. Thompson has generated 13.08 expected goals this season, which is pretty encouraging given that he’s one of the better shooters from distance in the NHL, and is also a competent finisher in tight.

As has been the case in each of the previous three seasons, the Edmonton Oilers are starting to elevate their level of play as we get into the later stages of the season. Since an ugly 8-3 loss on home ice to the Dallas Stars, the Oilers have allowed just 1.75 goals per game.

However, they have faced four teams that have been generating very few chances offensively of late in those matchups, and Edmonton’s recent stretch doesn’t make me believe it is a defensive juggernaut by any means. Thompson has had success versus Edmonton historically, with five goals in the last seven matchups, and Stuart Skinner and the Oilers appear to be a reasonable target once again in Tuesday’s matchup.
