The Toronto Blue Jays have opened as massive betting underdogs in the 2025 MLB World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Most online sportsbooks have the Blue Jays priced around +180 to win the World Series, while the powerhouse Dodgers have around -220 odds to win their second consecutive Commissioner’s Trophy.
Blue Jays to win the World Series
Toronto’s World Series odds lengthened to +1200 after it fell behind 3-2 in its best-of-seven series with the Seattle Mariners in the American League Championship Series, but the Blue Jays stormed back to take the final two games at home to prevail in seven games and claim the AL crown. They’re the first team since the 1996 Atlanta Braves to rally from a 2-0 best-of-seven series deficit after dropping the first two games at home.
The Blue Jays opened with long +6000 odds to win the World Series at BetMGM prior to the start of the regular season, making them one of the largest betting underdogs to ever advance to a World Series.
Toronto last won the World Series in 1993 when it prevailed in six games over the Philadelphia Phillies thanks to Joe Carter’s famous home run.
Dodgers wire-to-wire World Series favourites
The Dodgers opened with around +400 odds to win the World Series at most online sportsbooks and have remained the favourites to win the Fall Classic throughout the entire season.
With a 2025 payroll of roughly $350 million (USD), the Dodgers boast an incredibly stacked roster led by two-way sensation Shohei Ohtani, who propelled the Dodgers to a four-game sweep over the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series by bashing three home runs and striking out 10 batters over six scoreless innings in Game 4, to cap the greatest individual performance in MLB postseason history.
Los Angeles won nine of its 10 games against the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, and Brewers in this postseason to march to the World Series. Those three teams combined for just 28 runs against the Dodgers, an average of just 2.8 per game.
The Dodgers’ formidable starting rotation has posted historic numbers during these playoffs, collectively owning a 1.40 ERA over 64 1/3 innings while posting a combined 39.4% whiff rate. Additionally, L.A.’s pitching staff has held the opposition to just 56 total hits this postseason, the second fewest by any team through its first 10 playoff games in a single season since the 2017 New York Yankees.
The Dodgers won the regular season series with Toronto, taking two of three games from the Blue Jays at Dodger Stadium in August. Los Angeles outscored Toronto 18-7 in that three-game set. Ohtani didn’t pitch in that three-game series against Toronto, but he did some serious damage at the plate, going 7-for-13 with a pair of homers.
