Seattle Sounders (1.83) vs Toronto FC (3.70)
The unpredictability of the MLS this year makes this a hard one to call. This is reflected in the MLS Conference Cup Semifinal predictions, which were a total mess – the underdogs took us all by surprise!
The Sounders pulled off an unforeseen result in the semis, with a win over the Western Conference winners LAFC to complete one of the biggest shocks in MLS playoff history.
In the other semifinal, Toronto FC overcame last year’s champions Atlanta and defied the MLS betting odds in a 2-1 victory. The Reds came from behind to overcome a strong Atlanta side.
Seattle have been ruthless on the counter and they have more than enough quality to beat anyone in the MLS in a one-off match. Toronto have been organised and well-disciplined throughout the campaign.
We expect goals and Seattle to win it.
Parlay Pick: Seattle Sounders to win & game over 3.5 (4.60)
The Sounders finished second in the Western Conference, but certainly didn’t look good enough to take the title this season.
However, after a 4-3 victory over FC Dallas in one of the most entertaining games in MLS history, they looked certain contenders.
Against LAFC, it seemed like Seattle had ridden their luck for long enough, but they managed to dig deep and play to their strengths. They punished LAFC on the break through the likes of Ruidiaz and Lodeiro to take the win 3-1.
Toronto were even worse during the regular season, finishing 4th and losing 10 of their 34 games outright. They managed to flip the playbook at the end of the season, finishing strong with a 10-game unbeaten run.
As the playoffs progressed, we expected Atlanta to send Toronto packing in the semifinals, but Greg Vanney’s boys had other ideas as they won it 2-1.
Expect a lot of goals and the homeside to win.
On the money, exact score 3-2 Seattle (22.00)
Since we saw the matchup for the final, we all knew this would be a high-scoring affair. Both teams have their weaknesses and the coaches will look to exploit them.
Tononto’s organisation will be key. They’ve managed to put in organised performances throughout the playoffs, then rely on huge moments of magic to get them over the line.
Seattle have been more convincing, but they are far-from perfect. The result against LAFC will fill them with confidence.
Greg Vanney will be eagerly awaiting to hear the result of his vital centre-back Omar Gonzalez and ex-premier league striker Jozy Altidore fitness reports. If they were available for the final it would be a huge boost for the Reds.
Take final result to be 3-2 to Seattle.
The prolific Peruvian to find the net, Raúl Ruidíaz anytime scorer (2.25)
The Lima man has 14 goals and 4 assists in 25 matches so far. His season has been blighted with a number of injury problems.
But since Seattle started the playoffs, he’s really gone up a gear. The 29-year-old has been involved in at least one goal in each of the Sounders three playoff games.
He sits on 3 goals and 2 assists in this playoff campaign.
Out of all the performances he’s put in so far, the game against LAFC was by far his best – phenomenal.
He was all over the park; coach Schmetzer even said after the game “He was very very good. Worth every cent we paid for him.”
Take the striker to find the net in the final.
