The Chiefs also covered the point spread in both of those playoff victories. Kansas City could become the first AFC team to play host to three consecutive AFC Championship Games. The 2002-04 Philadelphia Eagles did so in the NFC. The common thread? Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was also the head coach of the 2002-04 Eagles.
The Chiefs have won the last five AFC West Division titles.
An Offensive Juggernaut
During the regular season, Kansas City was the NFL’s most powerful offensive force. The Chiefs posted an NFL-high 415.8 yards of offence per game this season.
They were also passing fancies. KC threw for an average of 303.4 yards per game. That was tops in the league as well. The Chiefs were the lone NFL club to pass for 300 yards a game. Kansas City’s 29.6 points scored per game left them sixth overall in the NFL in terms of scoring offence.
Mahomes posted an NFL-leading passing yardage average of 316 yards a game. He also tied with Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers for the NFL’s lowest interception percentage (1.0).
