Super Bowl 56 Numbers Crunched
The Super Bowl 56 numbers get crunched a little bit differently for the second year in a row. That is because the Los Angeles Rams are playing at home against the Cincinnati Bengals. If one adds the slight boost from home-field advantage, this is a closer game than the numbers suggest. The betting table is below.
Naturally, here are some more of the Super Bowl 56 bets and odds.
There are still some nice Super Bowl 56 prop bets to check out here as well.
Road To The Super Bowl – Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals arguably had the more difficult road to Super Bowl 56. They were the four seed out of the AFC by virtue of winning the AFC North Division. After sliding by the Las Vegas Raiders in the super wildcard round, they were able to outlast the Tennessee Titans in Tennessee. The Bengals took out the number one seed in what was a bit of a surprise.
Evan McPherson would kick four field goals once again as he did against Las Vegas. It was his final kick that sent the Bengals off to Kansas City. Most thought this was where the run would end for Cincinnati. This is even though they had success in a 34-31 home win just weeks before.
When Kansas City jumped ahead 21-3 in the second quarter of the AFC Championship, things looks bleak. However, Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati defence found a way. Burrow jump-started the offence tossed a 43-yard touchdown late in the half. That and a botched play at the end of the half kept the score at 21-10. From there, the Bengals chipped away and held Kansas City to just three second-half points.
After the Chiefs forced overtime, Joe Burrow took the ball back after a Bengals stop and marched down the field. McPherson booted his fourth field goal of the evening — a 31 yarder. That sent Cincinnati to the Super Bowl.
Road Home To The Super Bowl – Los Angeles Rams
By contrast, the Los Angeles Rams did not have quite as many obstacles on their road to Super Bowl 56. They were also the fourth seed as they won the NFC West crown. Their first game at home was a cakewalk against the Arizona Cardinals. Los Angeles overwhelmed Kyler Murray and a depleted Arizona team. Then, it was on to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Matthew Stafford versus Tom Brady was supposed to be the matchup we all wanted. After all, their first clash earlier in the season was full of fireworks and a lot of passing yards. Then, the Rams’ offence and defence fired on all cylinders en route to a 27-3 lead. However, Los Angeles turned the ball over four times and Tampa Bay came back to tie the game.
Now, 46 seconds was just enough for Stafford to take things into his own hands. He guided the Rams down the field and Matt Gay booted a 30-yard field goal for the win. That set up a third meeting with the San Francisco 49ers. It looked like the 49ers had the NFC Championship under control. They held Stafford, Cooper Kupp, and company to just seven points through three quarters. Then, Los Angeles broke out.
The Rams scored 13 unanswered points as the defence forced a key Jimmy Garoppolo mistake late to seal a 20-17 win. Los Angeles advanced to stay home.
Super Bowl 56 Pick – Los Angeles Over Cincinnati
Although the Cincinnati Bengals will not be scared by the Los Angeles Rams, the reality is the Rams Front Seven defensively is one of the best in football. Their offensive line features some of the best pass protection as well. This gives Matthew Stafford an advantage that Joe Burrow does not enjoy. The pass may even set up the run a bit for Los Angeles.
Cincinnati does allow the seventh-most passing yards and a 2 to 1 touchdown to interception ratio. That is right up Stafford’s alley. Can the Bengals play stout defence for most of the game against one of the best intermediate and deep throwers in football? That is dicey.
Burrow and the Bengals passing attack, led by, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins), will have to have the game of their lives on Sunday. They are capable but the feeling is the home-field advantage proves a bit too much as the Los Angeles Rams win their first Super Bowl championship.
