Nine different games dot the NBA schedule on Wednesday night. We’ve done the research to hand-pick the games most worth betting on. To get the best NBA bets of March 8, read this right away!
Over/Under 226.5 Points: Boston Celtics at Charlotte Hornets
The first bet of the night that we’re enamoured with is the over/under between the Celtics and Hornets. We feel the 226.5 points line, set by Canada’s best sportsbooks, is on the high side.
We say that for a number of reasons, but the first is because this is the fourth meeting of the season between the two sides. As the two opponents have gotten more familiar with one another, scoring totals have levelled out. The teams tallied for an eye-popping 269 points (with overtime) in the first go-round followed by 213 and finally 220 in the most recent outing. At this point in the season, we sense this game stays far, far away from the offensive outburst witnessed in the first meeting back when the season was barely underway.
You also have to consider Charlotte will be on tired legs. They hosted the Nets last night at home — a game they were hardly competitive in. Hornets we’re down 26 points at halftime before ultimately losing by 11. Back-to-backs aren’t conducive to high-scoring games as far as we’re concerned.
Speaking of the Nets, the last time we saw the Celtics, it was against them. On Sunday night, Boston expelled every last bit of energy to beat the championship favourites at top-used NBA betting sites. Jayson Tatum, in the game of his life, dropped a career-high 54 points in a 126-120 win. It was a spectacular performance, but one that might lead to a hangover in this one. Taken together, these factors have us hammering the under.
Against The Spread: Atlanta Hawks at Milwaukee Bucks
Surprisingly, Atlanta has had Milwaukee’s number this season. In two previous matchups, the Hawks have won both — one by 20 points and the other by seven. So why is Atlanta such big underdogs in the spread versus Milwaukee? Welp, unlike the previous battles, the Bucks are finally healthy.
Its “big three” of Giannis, Jrue Holiday, and Khris Middleton are finally on the court together, and as expected, the reigning champions are clicking again. The Bucks have won five in a row, including wins against tried-and-true contenders like the Bulls, Heat, and Suns. When healthy, there might not be a more complete team out East than Milwaukee.
Atlanta, on the other hand, is consistently inconsistent. They seem to fall in a pattern of whining one game, losing the next, and so forth. They’re 8-8 as of late and fresh off a three-point loss to a lowly Pistons team. You just never know what Hawks teams will show up on the floor, which is why we’re fading them — especially on the road versus a proven NBA title contender.
Against The Spread: Los Angeles Lakers at Houston Rockets
Nothing is going right for the Lakers as of late — unless LeBron James is going off for 56 points, as he did in a recent win versus the Warriors. Take that game away and Los Angeles has dropped five in a row. But if there’s a remedy for the Lakers’ woes it’s playing the worst team in the NBA, the Rockets. Tune off the noise and bet the Los Angeles spread here.
This is a gimme game that LA needs to avoid missing the playoffs entirely. They are currently 28-36 and squarely in ninth place. Only three games separate them and Portland in the 11th seed, which is the play-in game cutoff point (seeds seven through 10 advance only). We expect LeBron to will them — despite any miscues from Russell Westbrook — to a big win against a Rockets team playing for a lottery pick.
Against The Spread: Phoenix Suns at Miami Heat
Since Chris Paul’s injury, the Suns have been good but far from great. In that stretch, they’ve gone 4-3. But if missing its team leader wasn’t costly enough, Phoenix is also without its top playmaker, Devin Booker. He’s in health and safety protocols and missed the past four games (a 3-1 stretch for the Suns). Despite that middling success without its two best players, we’re not optimistic Phoenix can cover the spread versus Miami.
Since the All-Star break, the Heat have quite literally caught fire (pun fully intended). They’re 6-1, including double-digit wins versus conference contenders like the Bulls and 76ers. We sense this game plays out the same with Miami leading wire-to-wire and winning in a comfortable fashion. Take them on the spread here!
