Aqueduct Racetrack Entries

Aqueduct offers racing from late October-April, featuring more racing dates than any other NYC track. It is also regarded as one of the best wagering venues, but with frigid local temperatures detracting from the on-track experience, betting the races from a trusted online racebook is often a wise decision. In addition to the convenience and warmth of betting at home, these racebooks offer competitive bonuses and odds as well as loyalty programs simply not available at the track.

With marquee races such as the Cigar Mile, Wood Memorial, Carter Handicap, Gazelle Stakes and Gotham Stakes, Aqueduct takes center stage in the racing world several times a year. The Wood, Carter, and Cigar Mile are grade 1 events, while the Gazelle and Gotham are grade 2. Each April, the Wood garners much interest from around the nation as top three-year-olds compete for a slot in the Kentucky Derby. The Cigar Mile, for older horses, is held in late November, usually the Saturday following Thanksgiving. That race is particularly noted in the breeding world for adding a valuable credential to a stallion’s resume before a horse is retired to stud.

Many tracks have biases and tendencies that allow shrewd bettors to zero in on horses possessing particular traits. Aqueduct’s layout features two dirt tracks – an inner and outer configuration – with the latter being “winterized” and used during the colder weather months of December, January, February, and March. The inner dirt track is known for being very kind to horses with early speed, or those who can break quickly from the gate and maintain an advantage throughout the running.

While it is important to understand the power of this noted bias, it is equally crucial to realize that many trainers and jockeys trying to reap the rewards of the bias can play into the hands of a late-charging horse. When several early speed types insist on knocking heads early, closers at Aqueduct can often produce bigger than expected prices as they run against the bias. That being said, horses with a predisposition for early speed often make excellent bets on the inner dirt track.

*Notable Bets: For bettors looking to venture past win, place and show betting, Aqueduct often produces excellent multi-race payouts, particularly in the Pick 4 and Pick 6 pools. As the name suggests, the object of the Pick 4 and Pick 6 is to pick the winner of either four consecutive or six consecutive races. The Pick 4 is offered twice a day at Aqueduct and Pick 6 is offered once per day.

The beauty of either wager lies in the structure, which allows the player to construct tickets using multiple horses in each race. If a player uses four horses in a single race, he needs only one of the horses to win to keep the ticket moving along to the next leg of the bet. The more horses a player uses, the more the bet costs. The total cost of the wager can be calculated by multiplying the amount of the base bet by the number of horses used in each leg.

For example, a $1 base bet Pick four would cost $48 if the player used 6 horses in the first race, 4 in the second, 2 in the third and a single horse in the last leg of the best (6x4x2x1 =48). The Pick six is calculated on a mandatory $2 base wager and is usually only a good idea for

The Pick six is calculated on a mandatory $2 base wager and is usually only a good idea for deeper-pocketed players, but the payouts can be astronomical.

With so many legendary horses having won races at the Big A, the track has been a battleground for some of the finest animals in the history of the sport. Horses like Cigar, for whom the Cigar Mile is named, won the race when it was dubbed the NYRA (New York Racing Association Mile) in 1994, during his run of 16 consecutive wins.

The Wood is the most historically notable race at Aqueduct with past winners such as Gallant Fox, Twenty Grand, Count Fleet, Native Dancer, Bold Ruler, Seattle Slew, and Easy Goer. Famously Angle Light upset the great Secretariat in the 1973 Wood Memorial as the champ was later found to have a mouth abscess before recovering to reel off the most impressive string of Triple Crown races in the history of the series.
