Florida Panthers center Carter Verhaeghe (23) skates against the Dallas Stars during the game at the American Airlines Center

Join Canada Sports Betting’s Nick Martin as he handicaps the best NHL player prop bets available from Wednesday’s 10-game slate.

We split Tuesday’s pair of props, but earned a steady profit as our bet on Egor Chinakhov to record over 2.5 shots on goal cashed at +155. These NHL betting guides are currently up 14.87 units across 111 selections this season. Shot props have been particularly good to us, and I’m excited to outline the two I’m eying from this heavy slate.

The Florida Panthers are fighting for their lives in a hotly contested Eastern Conference playoff race. Though the Panthers are an obvious candidate to make a push down the stretch, especially if Aleksander Barkov is to return, they have dug quite a hole, currently sitting nine points back of the Boston Bruins entering tonight’s pivotal showdown.

The Panthers’ depth is currently drastically worse than it was throughout their back-to-back championships, with several key forwards missing, and it’s a safe bet to assume head coach Paul Maurice will be eager to use his top six quite heavily in this critical matchup.

Verhaeghe skated 22:53 in the Panthers’ 5-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Monday and recorded seven shots on goal from a total of 11 attempts. He also recorded seven shots on goal in the previous matchup.

Though the Bruins are finding results where it counts, they have not carried the play at the rate you would expect from a team that could finish with close to 100 points, and have been quite shaky defensively for a fairly large sample of play. Over the last 15 games, the Bruins hold a 47.18% expected goal share and have allowed 29.02 shots against per 60.

It seems logical to believe the Bruins can keep this matchup versus a shorthanded Panthers side close, but I’m expecting Verhaeghe and the Panthers to generate a strong output of shots on target in this critical matchup.

Pavel Dorofeyev Over 2.5 Shots on Goal: -120

Shockingly enough, Dorofeyev has recorded only two shots on goal over the last three games. In the previous 10 games before that, he averaged 3.6 shots on goal and recorded over 2.5 shots on goal in eight of those matchups.

Based on Dorofeyev’s skillset and roles on the Vegas Golden Knights, it seems likely that his recent drop-off in shot volume is not likely to be sustained. That point seemed abundantly clear in Sunday’s matchup versus the Anaheim Ducks, as Dorofeyev was targeted a ton of times on cross-crease plays that did not quite connect, as if often the case.

Dorofeyev will likely remain alongside Mitch Marner and Mark Stone on what should remain a highly effective second line. Dorofeyev is a pure goal-scorer, which is the key reason he’s skating alongside two highly intelligent skaters capable of helping him get shots off in dangerous areas.

Dorofeyev’s elite one-timer is also the preferred look on the Knights’ top power-play unit, which should find success in Wednesday’s matchup versus a Vancouver Canucks side that has killed off just 57.1% of penalties taken over the last 15 games. The Canucks are obviously a strong target at all strengths, having allowed 32.32 shots per 60 over the last 15 games.
