Anton Frondell/Connor Bedard 1+ Point Each: +135
Frondell/Bedard points parlay
Though the Chicago Blackhawks are once again playing meaningless hockey down the stretch, having 2025 third overall pick Anton Frondell in the lineup suddenly offers one intriguing factor to help keep their strong fanbase interested. Frondell put up 28 points in 43 games in the SHL this season and had a dominant showing on Sweden’s gold medal-winning team at the World Juniors.
Through his first two NHL games, Frondell has lived up to the hype, as he already appears to have far greater than average offensive awareness and has looked in place on the Blackhawks’ top line alongside Connor Bedard. Bedard has never truly played alongside another star player, and though Frondell is obviously a long way from being a proven NHL talent, the hope is obviously that he will provide develop to be a full-fledged star to play alongside Bedard for many years to come.
Though their line did not fare well defensively on Thursday in a matchup where the team was absolutely dominated, Bedard and Frondell linked up on a pretty goal, and Frondell had some strong sequences offensively.
Frondell is also playing alongside Bedard on the Blackhawks’ top power-play unit and has averaged 16:28 of ice time in his first two NHL games. There’s not much reason for head coach Jeff Blashill to stray away from the Bedard/Frondell tandem for the time being given where the Blackhawks are at, and regardless of potential growing pains away from the puck for Frondell, he should play big minutes once again in Friday’s matchup versus the New York Rangers.
The Rangers have allowed 3.61 xGA/60 over the last 15 games and will have Dylan Garland in goal making his second NHL start Friday, as opposed to Igor Shesterkin.
As bettors, we never want to put too much stock into a small sample size, but it is also important to try and make accurate assumptions on narratives that seem sustainable in short order before prices drift too low. In Frondell’s instance, it seems quite possible that his price to record a point may be closer to -140 sooner than later, and Friday’s matchup appears to be a good time to buy on Chicago’s new dynamic duo while Frondell’s price to record a point is at -115.
Moritz Seider Over 2.5 Shots on Goal: +110
Seider over 2.5 SOG
A key reason Seider has an underrated case for the Norris Trophy this season is how well he has fared while typically handling very tough shutdown minutes versus elite talents. However, following the addition of Justin Faulk at the deadline, head coach Todd McLellan has been more so deploying the second pairing of Faulk and Ben Chiarot as his shutdown tandem and leaning on the top pairing of Seider and Simon Edvinsson to help generate offence.
This narrative coincides with what has been an excellent stretch of play from Seider offensively, as over the last 10 games he has recorded nine points and averaged 3.8 shots on goal. He’s averaged 7.2 shot attempts per game throughout those matchups and averaged 25:37 of ice time as the Red Wings look to avoid another late collapse in the playoff race.
The Buffalo Sabres have cleaned things up defensively over the last 10 games, having allowed just 25.01 shots against per 60, but given the +110 price tag for a prop that has hit in eight of Seider’s last 10 games played, we can live with the more difficult matchup.
